Well, you see;

When black babies are born, they are automatically Baptist. It has something to do with a different genetic makeup--the praise DNA is stronger in black people. When black people reach adulthood they can choose what religion they would like--there is nothing barring a black person from becoming a great Catholic (sic).

When Ignorant white people are born they are usually Catholic. The slightly less ignorant ones can choose to be one of several Protestant religions.

Smart people (regardless of color) are typically atheists and agnostics.

BTW, I am reasonably sure that black people "get what God is all about". Perhaps some inward-searching would help you to find the proverbial "beam" in your own eye?

I don't know what would make you ask something like this but a great deal of the best catholics Or christians are blacks. Hello have you ever watched Madia's Family reunion. Try watching it. It's very good. I have black friends and I go to a predominately black church and it just doesn't get any better than that. They're a lot more friendly than the white people. And I'm white. LOL Go figure.

I know a lot of Black people who are devout Catholics.

There are many Black saints in the Catholic Church including:

Saints Aizan and Sazan were twin brothers. Aizan was the first Christian Emperor of the Kingdom of Axum, Ethiopia, circa 360.

Saint Moses the Black was a slave and gang leader who after conversion died a martyr of non-violence on August 28, 395. That date coincides with the march to Washington by 200,000 African Americans in 1963. (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/saintm34.htm)

Saint Elesbaan was an Ethiopian King who died as a monk in Jerusalem in 555.

Saint Lalibala (Ghebre Mesqel) was an Ethiopian Emperor revered for his faith, circa 1255.

Saint Tekla Hymanot, about 1313, was an Ethiopian reformer of monasticism.

Although I do not know if they were Black, there have been at least three African popes:
• St. Victor I was the first African Pope (189-199)
• St. Melchiades was the second African Pope (311-314)
• St. Gelasius was the third African Pope (492-496)

With love in Christ.

Everyone has their own opinion and religious beliefs but i think that this question may have been phrased wrong...

It is true you do not find many black catholics. I dont know why this is.. but you need to realise that from your question some people may take offence...

Just because they do not have the same beliefs as you does not mean they dont "get" what God is about. You need to realise not everyone can or wants to be a Catholic not everyone has the same beliefs and it is not just BLACK people... You have indeed phrased this question wrong maybe you should re-phrase this so not to cause offence to anyone.. who is a black like myself!!!!

I am not a religious person so maybe i have no business responding, but u do not seem to be charitable to others, and u also seem to paint a big brush stroke over an ethnic group that has brought many positive things to our culture. I for one thank all the black people for enduring suffering in our country as others still are sometimes condemning them. a black person is just like a white person but with different life experiences and heritage.

Why the hell would anyone want to be a catholic anyway? Be it black, white, pink with yellow spots. Just look at them. You have a ex Nazi as the head of the catholic church! A more bigoted, self righteous bunch of hypocrites it is hard to imagine. Oops! Sorry I forgot the mid western baptists...

Instead of worring about anyone, black or any other race, you should concentrate on the purpose that God has for u. We were all born for a purpose and even you have a job to do. So develope a relationship with Him and this will take your mind off of nonsense as this question bro.

I would never want to be a Catholic, and I am white. I think Africian Americans have a good idea what God is all about.

Not sure of the Catholics do.

There are Catholic Cardinals from Kenya and Africa is one of the fastest growing populations in the Catholic Church.

Like most racist comments it is not only wrong, but ill informed and shows pure stupidity.

I believe YOU do not get what God is about from your question.

All that matters is being a good Christian! The denominational name is not that important. I've visited some southern black churches and they are very lively (which is the way I personally like them). Maybe Catholicism is just too quiet. We all have our personal preferences in how we worship God and that's okay. He made us the individuals that we are and He knows what's in our hearts.
