Depends. Is she familiar with computers or are you afraid she'll crash it or cause some problem? Is she nosy? Are there records on your computer you really don't think she needs to be in and are afraid that she'll snoop around? I just got a new computer and I don't open attachments. My mother is coming to stay for 2 months and I know she'll want to check her email and it will be full of attachments. She's going to have to wait till she gets home to open those. I'm not getting my computer full of junk. It's your computer, you have the say so over it and if you don't think she'll respect your boundaries then tell her she can't use it and don't give her the password. Change the password if you're worried about someone else in the family giving it to her. Of course, you should find a tactful way of telling her the computer is off limits. If you want peace in your house, that is. Good luck.

No.
Your mother-in-law will invariably break something, find something you don't want found, or put you on an FBI watchlist because she accidentally surfed to some site that she shouldn't have.
You should treat your computer the same way you treat your toothbrush. You wouldn't let her use that, would you?

Of course.
If she's cool, then just let her go for it.
If not, create a user just for her and set her wallpaper to a picture of the chainsaw scene in Hostel. Then change all her windows sounds to screams and the sounds of torture from Hostel.

Why not? If she knows how to use a pc and you don't have anything on there that you want to hide, then why not? You might have to put a time limit on her, though. Tell her you don't mind, as long as she only uses it "fill in the blanks here in reguard to how long"

So long as your have your access password protected, I don't see any reason why you need to worry.
Set up multiple logins - one exclusively for yourself, so that you need not worry about someone accessing private, confidential stuff. You M-I-L can use another login which need not be password protected and she can access it without getting into 'your space' !

It's a matter of trust. First of all, identify why she wants to use your computer, for example, is it for things related to work or is it just simply for entertainment? Secondly, do you trust her?

She would be more than welcome to use it if she was still alive. When other relatives come to visit I always let them use a computer even if I have to run spybot search and destroy or antivirus to clean it up after they leave.

I don't see why not. Unless ofcourse you and her don't get along really well. If that is the case than maybe you should charged her 10 bucks the hour for using it.
