LMAO. No kidding. I try to be curtious with my cell phone use. Plus, I'm a private person when it comes to phone conversations and I don't really want the public hearing everything I'm saying.
What drove me nuts more than anything, was when I worked in retail. When I had to run register, I would constantly get these people who couldn't end their conversations for two minutes. It was as though I wasn't even there. How disrespectful.

If people are having lengthy, loud, personal calls in a public place, I just join right in the conversation. I make sure the person on the OTHER end of that phone call can hear me, too. Some "phonies" have gotten angry at me about this, but that's too bad. If they want to have a private conversation, then they should go somewhere private.

I remember a time before cell phones. When at a movie, a beeper would go off and a distinguished man would rush to a phone, the general assumption would be that he must be a Doctor, Firefighter, or Batman. In other words someone
important. Cell Phones call attention to the bearer and feed their egos and exaggerated sense of self importance. I feel fortunate
to have experienced a time when common sense, courtesy, and glass phone booths were the norm.

I'm with you on this one. I work in a public library and I spent a part of my day asking people to take their calls to the library's lobby. We have signs all over (a cell phone with a red line through it). People ignore the signs. They get very irritated when I tell them to "Please take their call to the lobby." I had the nerve to interrupt their rather loud phone conversation!
I wish we had some type of device that "scrambles" cell phone signals. The only way to use them would be to leave the building.
Oh, well, maybe one will be invented soon!

Some people overdo the use of cell phones. It's very
annoying in public to hear someone arguing with another
person over the cell phone, talking loudly and cursing.
If someone has to use a cell phone when driving, they should
have a hands-free device to talk on the phone. It should be
mandatory in every state,I believe to have the hands-free
device to talk on the cell phone in the car.

Cell phones are here to stay, so we'll always have to deal with these annoyances.
To be courteous, people SHOULD turn their ringers off in public places like the cinema and at restaurants.
If a person MUST use the cell phone at a restaurant, they should either speak in hushed tones or excuse themselves and step outside.
The most egregious of all cell phone offenses, in my opinion, is bathroom talkers. These are people who sit on the toilet doing their business, all the while shouting into their cell phones about the most intimate details of their personal lives. You can't even poop in peace anymore!

I agree, sometimes people dont seem to be aware of how loud they are speaking, or they want everyone to know about the trivia of their live (sure theres a study in there somewhere)
I dont really care cos I just look at them with amused comtempt, but driving whilst talking is a different matter (its illegal here in western australia but doesnt seem to matter)
I was on the freeway recently, this guy was all over the lanes, heaps of people beeped him, he was in his own little world on the phone. I totally hate that. its dangerous to others.

I agree with you, but our bellyaching won't solve the problem. My favorite is when I hear women talking on the phone in the stall in the ladies' room! I will unnecessarily flush the toilet loudly and make noises so the other person knows they are being talked to while in the bathroom! Come on, people! One was talking to an attorney and advising him on whether the brief was done. Crazy.

Well, it's totally rude and true that people today use their mobile in every place even though it's annoying and disrespectful for other people to hear their babbling.
But, until there is a law that forbids this kind of behavior, I don't see that this problem will decrease at all.

Err... what was the question?
Well reading your thing, I think you are right, the worst is foreign languages when they sound so annoying and can't understand a word. Even worse-- Afro kids in the back of the buses etc, playing their rubbish songs, that only they would understand and would listen to...
(Sorry if mentioning afro kids was offensive to anyone but 99.99% it is them.. teach them something if you don't want to get offended.)
