When I filled my first BoS, I started a Grimoire, taking the magick and spell section out and making a strictly magick Book. Then when I had filled my BoS again (some years later) I pulled out the herbalism stuff and made a Herbal Book..and so on and so on. I use 2 or 1.5 inch 3 ring binders that I fancy up, so it takes about 2 or 3 years to fill my BoS to the point its hard to flip the pages. Once a Year, I also go through and remove anything that I just dont use any more, so I have a "Old stuff BoS" as well, as I cant bring my self to get rid of them. All in all, I have a total of 8 binders right now (after a little over 11 years of study), the main one, the Ritual and religious specific BoS is usually about 3/4 of the way full, the herbal is bursting at the seams, and the rest are about halfway full.

Well I have about 4 three inch binders full of stuff. I also have a very big library of books. After a couple of years I realized it was easier to buy books and then write down the book title, what I wanted, and the page number. Then I just grab the book and there is my reference. I don't write down spells because I know what works for what spell and I use what I have on hand. Very rarely do I go to the store to get stuff for a spell. I don't do much planning for my spells I work it at that moment.
Don't worry you can have as many BOS as you want. It is your information and your choice. Have fun with it!!

For anyone who doesn't know -- a BOS is a Book of Shadows -- a book that witches keep their spells, rituals, recipes (for food, incense, potions, etc.), correspondence lists for spell writing, moon phase calendars, etc. in.
Most witches have tons, LOL. They fill up one and move onto another... or they are moved to start another, or the recieve a new blank book that they just HAVE to break in, etc. I, personally, have two, I guess -- well 3... I have one that has all of my personally written rituals, spells, etc. in it, another that has rituals and spells I have downloaded offline, or from public group rituals I have attended, and another with notes from all the various classes I have taken on subjects pertaining to my spiritual practice. Some other witches also have another they call a Mirror Book that they use to record dreams, and/or different psychic readings they've recieved or performed, or any visions they've recieved, etc. I have something like this, but I call it my Dream Journal, and I don't realy consider it a Book of Shadows, persay.
Also, I put most everything I have on my computer so most of my Book of Shadows is on my hard drive! It's easy to keep things organized and I can add to it easily. I do print off hard copies of everything I write myself and put it into a three ring binder. You never know when you're computer could crash! (Although I have most of what I have saved on disk somewhere too... can't be too careful!) I keep all of my divination reports on my computer and most of the recipes I've used...
Some feel that there is more power to it if everything is handwritten, but I feel that if I am putting my energy into it, it works just as well hand-written as it does typed, but that's just my personal opinion. :-)
But it's perfectly normal to have as many as you want or need! Don't worry about being 'different' because what everybody does is right for them! :-)
Blessings and Light

I'm not sure I understand the need for more than one ... unless we're talking about owning books that other people have written.
Is it the result of belief evolution? Or perhaps an exercise in Chaos Magick?
Edited to add:
Personally, I have six incomplete books. I've been doing it that way in order to a) have an easy way to seperate sections, and b) to make sure writing the damned thing takes a long time.

If you fill up one book, you might as well start another! Of course, you may wish to have a Book of Shadows for each level of your development. Like one before your dedication, and then start a new one after, archive the old, and then if you become a Priest, start a new one. Or if you start a coven, start one for the coven. Some people like to keep different things in different books too. Like one book for stuff collected from outside sources, one for your own private stuff, one for herb lore, one as a sort of journal, etc.
I like to copy my stuff into a Word document. One day I'm going to consolidate it all into one big 3-ring binder.

Some like to keep differnet books for each different practice, I think it is basically what works best for you. Most pagans are free thinkers and like to do what suits them that is why they usually don't care for regimental religions in the first place.
