I am 33, married with a 2 year old son. I have grown tired of my profession and want a change. I want to go back to school and get my degree but don't know how to fund it. I know I can get a loan to pay for school, but going to school and working part time is not going to pay the bills. Is it even possible for me to go back??

HELP!

I want to get my degree in Radiology/Nuclear Medicine. They don't offer these courses online, nor do they offer them at night due to the clinicals that are required.

Yes, it is possible. I returned to school at the age of 42. At the time I quit my job, my income at almost six figures was by far the family's higher income. First, do you own a home? Take out a Home Equity Line of Credit - do not take out a Home Equity Loan or it will increase your income and decrease your financial aid. Use the money from the line of credit only as necessary to help pay bills. Reduce your expenditures, do you really need all the items you purchase, especially convenient items? Avoid the fast-food trap and coffee purchase traps - these costs add up quickly. Make extra food at each meal and freeze the left-overs for quick microwave meals. Shop at the local resale shops for clothing and toys - you will be amazed at the name brands and fantastic toys you can purchase at very very low prices - not to mention the books. If you really want to change professions and return to school, you will be able to find a way to do so, but it will require sacrifices. Making the sacrifices while your son is only 2 will have less impact on what you can provide for him versus doing so when he is older (as I am doing). I am now in my third year of school and am glad I made the decision to quit my job and return to school. Good luck to you.

It is always possible. If you don't have any outstanding school loans, try to apply for a govt. and/or state grant. Hopefully they will review your financial status and help to pay. There are programs that help with school, cruize through your phone book and see if there are any agencies that help. Sometimes local assistance offices have people who set up programs for schooling help. Getting a student loan... i would only do that as a last resort. Good luck, I went back to school after having two kids, it wasn't easy, but it wasn't horrible either. I met a ton of returning adult students and even took my kid to the club room we had and she hung out with them for the day during my classes. Boy, I sure hope that you do it, in the end it will be so worth it. Go talk to financial aid before you chicken out. Hurry! Run! lol Wishing you luck.

Well, you could go to school part time while you work. O r, work part time while you go to school, and fund the difference with a student loan, or something from your bank. Banks are more willing to lend if you are studying something that will probably lead to a decent paying job at the end of it. There may be scholarships and bursaries you can apply for. Best bet: check with student aid dept at the school you are interested in attending. Also check with student aid at the closest public university - they will know everything about financial aid.

You may have to cut expenses, like moving in with parents or in-laws.

Try night courses at the local community college. Maybe you can get a job that has education benefits. If not, remember that the tuition may be tax deductible.

Why not take online courses? Of course it is possible. Is your wife working? She can help out while you are in school. It will benefit both of you in the end.

There are plenty of people who work full time and go to school full time. It will be hard, but stay dedicated. The Lord always provides.

Good Luck!!
