You want to give it harder food really... more nutrient value compared to can food. Also they can start getting teeth problems as they get older on only can foods. Can foods is only 80% liquid anyway. Go with a hard kitten food till it reached 1 year. If you want to stay with the Purina brand but you want to give it a good food go with Purina Pro Plan. Personally I like Eukanuba, Nutro Natural Choice, BilJac, and UltraMix (I forgot it's full name but you can only get it at Petco). For dry foods you need to look at the first three ingredients because that is what the food is mostly made of. The cheaper stuff kitten food yes has meats but when you go to the adult food it's mostly fillers. And one more thing the premium food will cost more but you actually save money: 1. They eat less the bag last a little bit longer. 2. Smaller waste. 3. More nutrient balance that you know they are getting what they need. 4. Better coat quality. My true favorite cat food is BilJac and my reason for it is because when foods so chicken by-products that can be beak, feet, or feathers. BilJac only uses the meats of the chicken and only the meats. It breaks down easier in the cats stomach. I have trouble finding it where I live but trust me it's a really good brand.

Dry food is extremely bad for the cat, especially kittens, as it is dehydrating. And it has NO good effects on the teeth - letting your kitten chew leather or bones, or brushing his/her teeth, is what will make a good difference; but not dry food.

For some info on what food it's really good to feed your kitty, check any of these sites: catnutrition.org, catinfo.org, littelbigcat.com - and plenty of others - most agree that the cheapest of canned food is better than the most expensive of dry food; but best of all is raw meat diet, usually prepared by yourself.

I currently buy normal canned food, looking at the values - there should be as much meat / muscle meat as possible, a lot of protein, and very, very little carbohydrates. That means little or no soy/corn/rice; also, making sure that there is not a great content of by-products is a good idea.
Before I switched to canned food, I was most satisfied with a brand of dry food that was called Advance (www.affinity-petcare.com) - but I saw how dehydrated my kitten had been after I switched to canned food, so I think I will probably stick to canned food for him. A bit more expensive, the good foods, but, in the long run, it means better health for the cat. Which I definitely prefer.

And no, canned food does not give cats diarrhea - my kitten did the switch without a single runny stool. Canned food is better assimilated, which means the cat produces less waste, and it's more compact. I saw that, with my own eyes - I didn't believe it either.

Whiskas Kitten and Felix Kitten are pretty good. Whiskas KItten Dry Food is good, so is Go Cat Kitten Dry. You can also get whiskas kitten in cans, they come in a four pack and are smaller than other cans. They're cheaper than the pouches but less conveneient. If the kitten is liking the dry food, then don't spend to much on wet food.

Purina is a good choice. Feed kitten chow until it is a year old teh switch to cat chow. The moist stuff can be used as a treat.
There are also cat treats you can buy. I have one cat that crys until she gets hers and another that just leaves them lay on the floor.

purina is a very good brand
I use whiskas and friskies, both were approved by my vet.

I give wet food to my kitten in the morning, and wet food in teh eveing, and during the day he always have some dry food to eat.
if your kitten like dry food, that's good, you minimize the chance he got diarrhea...

Don't by the cheapest food, a kitten (as well as an adult cat) got a very sensitive stomach, so you need to give him quality to help him digest.

If your kitten like dry purina food, that's a good thing, don't change. Be careful, he needs to drink more if he eats only dry food. He always need clean water (or kitty milk, if he's very young) near his food.

Purina kitten sounds good to me. I have a one year old cat, and I feed her Deli Cat from the grocery store and she loves that....I can get a pretty big container for $2.00. =) PS-as for the wet food, I only give it to her as a special treat, she doesn't really like the wet food.

It is best to use a quality food with only one protien source, like Chicken. Read the food label. The protien source is listed in the very beginning of ingrediants. Often times when two or more protien sources are mixed together like liver and fish oils as well as chicken it will set up within your pet an allergy to a certian protien. My cat is allergic to fish her fur falls out and her coat gets very coarse. This is common in cats actually, they have a tendancy to be allergic to the oil in fish. Science Diet and Walthams food both are examples of a chicken only protien food. Hope this helps good luck

I prefer the Purina Kitten Chow, and my cats always loved it! It was hard to switch off to another brand when the time came (my male was getting too fat!). I definitely recommend dry over canned- better for their teeth.

At that age try both dry food and wet food ( try mixing it together ) but food for kittens. Whiskas do kitten food and kitten milk which is still important for them.. try local pet store but most Supermarkets should do it.
