Actually, Spanish fly can be an alcoholic beverage or a drug, depending upon which one is being referred to. The drink known as Spanish Fly is actually a cocktail made with one ounce of tequila and one ounce of Cuarenta y Tres, garnished with cinnamon. Obviously the drink is quite powerful, but it does not have any special "aphrodisiac" in it. The drink could be used to rape a woman in the same way any alcoholic beverage can be used to rape a woman--by plying a woman who is naive about drinking to consume more and more until she is helpless or passes out--but it does not have anything added to it which would make it different from other alcoholic beverages.
The "drug" Spanish fly is actually the dried, crushed body of the green blister beetle known as Cantharis Vesicatoria, or the Spanish fly. The drug has been used medically since antiquity as an irritant and diuretic; it was also considered an aphrodisiac. Spanish fly (or Cantharidin) doe not work as an aphrodisiac; research done in 1996 by the FDA shows that the drug has no so-called sexual effects. Despite this, the pornography industry continues to have a field day with this myth.

Sort of. First of all, Spanish Fly isn't really a drug... it's a beetle. It's been used on farm animals to get them to mate and seems to do just fine as far as that's concerned. People tend to be a little more complex, though. The beetle has this effect because it's tissues are saturated with a poison called 'cantharidin'. This chemical is odorless, colourless, and solid at room temperature, and is usually classified as a poison because there is very little difference in dosage between its non-dangerous effects and its dangerous ones. 10 mg is enough to be fatal. In people, as it's excreted, cantharidin causes immense swelling all along the way. So expect inflammation of the kidneys, urinary tract, and yes, the genetalia for men as well. Do not expect it to be a painless experience. You may note that this also isn't likely to do much for women. And historically, even though it has had a great reputation as an aphrodesiac, it has typically only been used on men. Nero's wife used it on male guests hoping to get them to do something they could be blackmailed for later, and Henry IV took it himself to the detriment of his health. It is also one of the poisons associated with the Medicis, who would just kill people with it.

I have used it, but found something better. To enhance the pleasure my wife gets, and to help maintain my erection, I now rub English Mustard on my helmet as lubricant. My wife says that not only do I taste good, I'm harder, for longer.
