No, it will not help beyond the nutritional value that it holds. The Minister of Health is mistaken and unfortunately so is President Mbeki on this matter. And it is sad.

The only light of truth in this may be that garlic has been shown to stimulate the immune system. But the problem with this is newer studies are showing that it's our immune systems killing us when we're infected with HIV/AIDS, not the virus in and of itself, so stimulating the immune system may not be the best choice in the fight against HIV. Your immune system fights one infection so hard that it's too exhausted to fight any other infections, and cant keep output of T-cells high enough to fight other infections as it's spending so much energy creating T-cells against HIV. New testing is taking place on a preliminary basis to see if discouraging the immune system from fighting the virus is of any benefit to thriving with infection.

They are not rumours, Dr. Msimang, promotes the use of garlic, potatoes, beetroot and lemon saying that the delay the development of HIV into AIDS. Her claims are unfounded and are not backed by any scientific proof.

The health minister of South Africa is deliberately misleading the public because they don't want to spend the money on what they need to be spending it on. At a recent event, her stand-in was booed off the stage. She is WRONG, and my guess is that her days as health minister will soon be over.

i AM from SOUTH AFRICA, and let me just say that as a souh african citizen (although living in the UK), i am DISGUSTED that that STUPID woman is STILL our health minister...
She wastes precious resources on million Rand parties, yet she refuses to issue free ARVD (anti-retro-viral drugs) to those who need it
She should be Hanged.
And to answer your question, garlic and potatoes can NOT...i repeat can NOT cure Aids

She is only voicing the thoughts of her master Thabo Mbeki that well known AIDS dissident. The pair of them are an embarrassment to their Country and the bottom line is they do not wish to spend money on ARV's so they mislead a gullible section of their citizens into believing this and other shite.
