because people are brainwashed as children. If you are brought up every day thinking that god loves you and it is told to you day after day, when your littleyou'll belive it and that is how its reinforced. Then you tell your children. And then they teach their children and then it keeps going on. This is how religion keeps its power. We have no use for religion because government does the same job in contolling people. People had to believe in god because the priest wern't powerfull enough. But with an omnipitent fource behind them they are all powerful. So after they made up this lie. They died and PEOPLE STILL BELIEVED IT! now the priests even believe it. Religion is a big cult. And what do you mean by 50% chance of existance. It has no chance because its just a statement not supported by any facts. Its not science because it cant be proved or disproved. Its like saying I should have won jeopardy cause I "knew" the answer. Then they say, you cant prove thats not true. Well you cant prove its true.
Also Its either a 100% chance or a 0% chance.

I am hesitant at responding to this question, only because I know that it really wont matter what anyone says because you already have your mind made up about what you believe. Nevertheless, I will leave you with something.
Two things: First, your question has been asked for hundreds of years and has already been answered many times. One of the answers became known as Pascal's Wager (now, I am not basing my entire argument on Pascal's Wager, I am just giving you an answer that has already been given). In its simplest form, Pascal's Wager says this: "If God does exist, and I follow Him, when I die I get what was expected, God. If God doesn't exist, and I follow Him in 'vain', when I die, I become worm food" (this is my own loose paraphrase). In other words, if God exists, I gain everything (that I expected). If God doesn't exist, I lose nothing. If it is a 50/50 chance, I'd rather pick the side that gains everything.
That is not why I believe there is a God, but I thought that that answer was appropriate for your question. Secondly, to say that there is no God would require absolute knowledge of all things. For example, I can be in a small room and search it high and low and say, for sure, that there is no spider (for example) in that room. However, the universe is not a small room. In fact, the universe is, indeed, very large. To say that there is no God would require that you know everything about the entire universe (which humans have not found an end to). That would require absolute knowledge, which is a characteristic of deity.

Turn the question around: What is the point of not believing in the God Who exists, if there's only a 50% chance of Him not existing?
Of course, that's your number. Logic dictates that there must be a creator, since the universe has not always been here, and could not have spontaneously created itself from nothing. I see a 100% chance of God existing, and less than a 50% chance of an atheist taking an honest look.

First, it appears you are math-challenged. If you're speaking of a non-existent God, then there is a 0% chance of that which does not exist existing. If you arrive at 50% by saying "Either God does exist or does not exist. Two possibilities would therefore each have a 50% chance." Please allow me to dissuade you of this approach. By the same token you could say, "Either there is a million dollars under the pillows on my coach or there is not: 50% chance."
The question of whether or not God exists cannot be quantified. Those who believe need no proof. Those who disbelieve can see no proof. Those who are curious and approach the question with an open mind are not tolerated by either believers or dis-believers. In both cases, their message is either join our club or shut up.
If you think God is non-existent, you've already made up your mind. If you are really curious, you may wind up learning some stuff first-hand that most have never considered.

What is the point in NOT believing in him if he's got only a 50% chance of NOT existing?

The proof that God exist is all around us. The way that everything flows together and most importantly the existence of Human Beings. Humans are nothing like anything else that lives on Earth. Evolution would suggest that we are just evolved animals, but that makes no sense.
1. We are sentient beings. Evolution would have no reason to create an animals that could destroy and take over in the way that we do.
2. If we had evolved we would walk differently. Scientist are amazed that humans can even walk at all, and in fact is called by scientist just a series of coordinated falls.
3. Things that we do like singing, dancing, playing instruments being funny, any of these gifts that we all posses one of have no place in a world constructed by evolution.
There are no survival reasons for these things to take place, and the whole theory about evolution is that we evolve when our existence is threatened, so were we singing our predators to death at some point in time. I think not. Above all else we love, and that is straight from God "God is love" 1 john 4:8. All of our emotions point to a higher existance. So if we didn't just evolve then there has to be a creator and that would be God.

I'd rather go with the 50% chance that He does exist.

I always thought that God once sent a very lovely person into my life, people thought so too cause she really changed me, made a better person out of me... I loved her and did my best to be a perfect man.
Well, she's in another relationship now... a Christian would say God took her away from my life because it was meant to be and God works in mysterious ways... don't tell me know tales, O.K.? There's nothing out there and my belief in God has faded away..just like pffffttt..... Easy come easy go!
So, if you find WHY we should believe in nothing, let me know that :)

Which god are we talking about?!
we have hundreds of them, which of them do you mean?
So this 50% of it's existence wont be so, say we have 20 gods* only, then -if we're talking about the christian god- his existence wont be more than (2.5%)!!
although we're talking about more than 20.. much more than that.!

How did you work that out? Over history mankind has come up with millions of types of "god"? Which one are you refering to?
If He was non-existent, I wouldn't believe, because He wouldn't be here, and if I knew He wasn't here, I wouldn't believe, but if He is here....oh - whatever. Thanks for the points :)
