I was shocked when I went through one of my partner's 12 year old niece's school books. Her written work was littered with "u" and "r" and "l8r". The teacher had not corrected this or made any comment on it at all. What is wrong with people?

The simple answer is 'no'.

I blame this on parents and teachers who have not required children to meet minimum standards on the use of language.

Most people won't even use the check spelling function. (I use it frequently. I'm a creative speller.)
