Mmm. Do you remember the 10 commandments?
The second commandment please.
"Do not make a sculpted image or any likeness of what is in the heavens above..."
* coughs and cears throat sarcastically *
Well well.. I'm just here to make a point.
Why is it that Christians make idols of Jesus Christ on the Cross, or the cross itself?
If you are so religious , and care so much about Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit, and the HOLY BIBLE, why is it that you break the second commandment ?
* melodramatic voice *
Did I get you on this one , or are you going to make some outstanding excuse for it ?
:)
BLESS YOU ♥
I'm a JEW! Yes, just incase you're wondering how you can insult me. Yet you can't for I am part of the ' chosen ' people according to God and the BIBLE, if you've read it.

Young, precious one, here's a fact for you: Christians, and the rest of the humans, can not successfully get past the First Commandment with a passing grade, much less the other nine. Until we put God first, above all other gods we humans have and hold dear to ourselves, we need not even worry about the other Commandments. To fail at the first command means that we cannot even understand the other nine. However, once you have mastered the first command the other nine fall right into place and become ever so easy to both understand and follow.
Here's another fact for you to debate: The "cross" is a Christian sybol used to suggest Jesus. If we cannot know Jesus we will then never know God. We Christians do not worship the cross but we do remember that the cross is where Jesus laid down his life for all of us. Jesus teaches us to never morn our dead but to instead celebrate the fact that our dead will be with us in Heaven. Consequently, many false religions symbolize a dead Jesus on the cross. Jesus is not dead but alive and well and sitting at the right hand of God as Intercessor for each one of us. Many religions use symbols to suggest their belief in a higher diety but Christians use an "empty" cross to symbolize that Jesus did rise from the dead and lives to forgive and sanctify each and every one of us...if only we seek Him and ask Him for His grace.

We break that rule for the very same reason we break all the others...we are only human and like pretty shapes like crosses. And its the catholics I think you want to spank, not the Christians.
Meek will inherit the earth and YOU are not being very meek at the moment!
"Does Judaism believe that chosenness endows Jews with special rights in the way racist ideologies endow those born into the "right race"? Not at all. The most famous verse in the Bible on the subject of chosenness says the precise opposite: "You alone have I singled out of all the families of the earth. That is why I call you to account for all your iniquities" (Amos 3:2). Chosenness is so unconnected to any notion of race that Jews believe that the Messiah himself will descend from Ruth, a nonÂJewish woman who converted to Judaism.
Why were the Jews chosen? Because they are descendants of Abraham. And why were Abraham and his descendants given the task of making God known to the world? The Torah never tells us. What God does say in Deuteronomy, is that "it is not because you are numerous that God chose you, indeed you are the smallest of people" (7:7). Because of the Jews' small numbers, any success they would have in making God known to the world would presumably reflect upon the power of the idea of God. Had the Jews been a large nation with an outstanding army, their successes in making God known would have been attributed to their might and not to the truth of their ideas. After all, nonÂMuslims living in the Arab world were hardly impressed by the large numbers of people brought to Islam through the sword."

What ever your religion is ,Does not matter It Is ONE God OUR God ... I do however understand your question you are referring to the Crosses in Churches and the Madonna Statues as well as All the patron saints that are out there with statues and pendents for jewelry etc... For your information Not ALL Christians pray to a statue or cross or whatever ... But this is like asking why don't people honor their Father and Mother anymore . You must see how children treat their parents now a days. Why don't Parents teach their children respect and curtsy etc... Anyway

I have no graven images of God. Catholics and some other religions do, but I do not. Roman Catholics and those offshoots who still adopt the RC modes of worship and trinity do not represent true Christianity - just what they profess to be Christianity.
No New Testament doctrine violates any of the 10 commandments.., and that goes for having idols or praying to them yet they justify it by saying.., "well.., even though we are looking at the statue or figure.., we are not praying to it we are praying to the person it represents."
I'm sorry but these people have no power to do anything - they are dead. God has not deified Moses, Joseph, Mary or anyone else. Jesus is the exacting "REPRESENTATIVE" of God just as Moses was.. with the exception that Jesus ministry endures forever under the promise God gave David.
I am Christian by the way -although now days the term is so muddied and confounded, todays Christians have lost sight of what they really are SUPPOSED TO BE. We gloat on being Christian and fail to realize that it was started as a SECULAR Insult on those who followed Jesus, and the name stuck.
The Bible says we who follow Christ Jesus are adopted.., and does not say we are adopted Christians. The implication is clearly, Adopted Jews! However, hatred of Jews from false followers, who claim to be of Jesus, send them shivering at the thought and take the way of Constantine, in an attempt to separate from Jews.
But what can I say? No one listens to me nor believes me. Thats their problem.

I don't make an idol of the cross; you can come into the church building where I preach and not find a cross or a crucifix anywhere. While many religious people do make idols of these things, those who follow the Bible do not.
And, since you brought it up first, have you ever considered WHY the Jews were the chosen people - for what purpose were they chosen?
Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
The Jewish people were chosen, not to unconditional salvation, but to be the line to bring the Messiah into the world. Old Testament or New Testament, one needed to be obedient to God to be saved; it's not enough just to have chosen the right grandparents.

My, my. Worry not, dear one, I shan't insult you or your faith.
Exodus 20:1-17, one of my favorite passages in the Bible. The problem springs from differences in interpretation of the Decalogue, commonly known as the Ten Commandments. "You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments".
I believe (and I am not lumping other Christians in here with me...it is alllll me) that we do not worship the "graven" images, but these trappings are more to help us keep our thoughts and minds focused on Christ. When I see a crucifix, or Madonna, or any of the assorted Catholic saints, my heart is touched with the history of Christ.
May peace always be near your heart, dear one.

Your question is perfectly valid. As an ex minister I can say this. Few ministers actually worship the dead Christ on the Cross. He is there to show the suffering of Christ as a reminder to the Christian that He died for their sins. A whole pile of clergy think its bloody daft having an effigy of a dead man on a cross to worship coz in the Christian religeon Christ HAS been reborn!!

It is only an idol if it is worshiped as a God. I don't worship the cross around my neck it is only a symbol that represents the Lord that I pray too. The cross that is around my neck is not the God who answers my prayer. I can not answer for others but that is my stance on this.

Finish the commandment. . .
It should read "You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I The Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate Me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love Me and keep My Commandments."
(Notice the part about bowing down and serving? convenient that you left that out of your accusation, isn't it.)
So, you are Jewish. . . I would guess then that you know God gave Moses specific instructions on how to decorate the Ark of the Covenant with Angels, and how the tent that the Ark was kept in was to be decorated.
Wouldn't that constitute "graven images"
If you are going to make an accusation, at least enter everything into evidence.

There are religions that worship statues and stuff like that, but i don't ever remember myself, or anyone I know falling down on their knees and worshipping their necklaces or anything like that.
Making for yourself an idol can be anything you place before God, including a bad attitude toward others.
Maybe if you had another cup of coffee and came back and asked your question in a nicer tone it would help
(that's me using my best "mom" voice)
