Earcropping is done primarily for cosmetic reasons (except for dog fighting, which is a cruel practice). It does not serve any medical purpose. The procedure is now banned in England, South Africa and other countries as they deem it to be inhumane.

Earcrops now are done to achieve a certain look. Not really for any reason unless you are fighting your dogs.
Many vets do not do them as they are painful to the dog and are just like a major surgery. THey are require lots of after care and if you do not follow the protocol the ears will not stand up and look bad.
It is a personal choice and each person has to make it for themselves.
I have dobermans and do not crop ears unless the dog comes to me as a rescue and was already done.
The rest of my dogs weimaraners do not need cropped so not an issue for them.

I think ear cropping is personal choice. I've owned 5 APBT. Not one dog has ever been cropped. It was a personal choice I chose to make. I think it's cruel imho to mutilate a dog for cosmetic reasons. Ears add so much expression to the face a dog.My dogs talk with their ears also.Plus they look friendlier. Some Pitties dog look extremely regal with cropped ears. Again it's a procedure I choose not to do to my dogs.Imho i'm also glad more and more vets are also choosing not to crop.

I think ear cropping is a plus for certain breeds of dogs dobes, greatdanes, beauviers. I have owned all 3 of these dogs and had all there ears cropped to me it looks neater and they dont get as many infections in there ears we have raised many dogs my standard poodle always got yeast infections in her ears because of the length I would not crop her ears they just required special attention but I did crop the other dogs. I think it depends on the individual. as for it being inhumane people have plastic surgery everyday to improve there looks so why not pets.

There never was a reason to crop the ears. People have it done just because they think it look better. That is no reason to put a dog through surgery and pain.
My Danes have never had their ears cropped and to me that looks normal.

Ear crops were originally for fighting and guard dogs, to make the dog less vunerable toinjury/harder to stop. Less to grab hold of, see? Now its mostly for looks and just cruel... Who wants their bloody ears cut off?!

Don't do it! There's a reason it's going out! It's cruel and unnecessary... Dogs look so much better w/o it done anyway!

I have two dobermans and they have they're tails bobbed but they're ears are not cropped because I think they look better, less menacing, that way.

It is a terrible thing to do. What is the point anyhow? How about we start cropping peoples ears?

I own dobermanns and for them it is neater to have their ears cropped. They look like sissies if they aren't.
