We have really expensive down-filled pillows and I'm wondering if I can put them in the dryer to kill-off the mites that collect in all bedding? My husband says this may cause their eggs to hatch. Pretty gross subject, eh?

Freeze them,

If you are really attached to the pillow put it in a freezer for a few days and it will reduce the mites etc, but they will come back over time as they are a necessary part of our ecosystem.
If you really don't want any mites in your pillow, buy new ones and put them inside anit-allergy pillowcases and then in a standard pillow case. This will not be as comfortable but should stop the mites entering your pillow in the first place.

Good Luck !

throw the pillow away. you can't get rid of them. There's been researches done about pillows and mettresses. you are supposed to get new pillows every 3 years and mattress every 10 years. it's not healthy to keep pillows if you have mites.

I agree that tossing out the pillow is unfortunately about the only way out of this...I would also test the mattress and any other pillows on that bed. Sorry.

if you have expensive pillows, then you must be able to afford new ones. throw them away & buy new ones. go & dis-infect areas where these pillows may have been . retrace your steps where you may have picked up these nasty critters & make sure you dont do that particuler thing or visit that area again. if necessary, call a professional pest control to help you rid yourselves of these pests. good luck!

Andy C is right, freeze them. If you live where it gets cold in winter then leave them outside overnight on a really cold and windy night, otherwise place them in a trash bag and stuff them into the freezer.

Mites live on dead skin cells, a human loses about 1 ounce of dead skin cells every day.
