maybe they are checkin to see if you have any money....or maybe they think your shoes are hot.......

They're checkin to see if you're married or not.
Shoes that don't match your outfit, or ones with holes, or socks that don't match = single. You don't have a woman making sure you look presentable before walkin out the door. =)
Take it as a compliment, if they got as far as the shoes, then it wasn't obvious from the rest of your clothes. Congrats! You don't need Garanimals!

Well are they covered in spaghetti? This maybe be the cause of their covetous glare, not to mention "some" women are shoe whores. I think it's bred into them though. My Wife is not staring at my shoes, she's staring at my purse, probably because it's filled w/spaghetti.

Some people say that you can tell alot about a person from their shoes. I know that is not always true, and don't sweat the sneakers.
