Mmm. Do you remember the 10 commandments?

Le second commandment please.

"Do not make a sculpted image or any likeness of what is in the heavens above..."

* coughs and cears throat sarcastically *
Well well.. I'm just here to make a point.
Why is it that Christians make idols such as the VIRGIN MARY, JESUS CHRIST, thus and thus ?
If you are so religious , and care so much about Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit, and the HOLY BIBLE, why is it that you break the second commandment ?

* melodramatic voice *

Did I get you on this one , or are you going to make some outstanding excuse for it ?

:)

BLESS YOU ♥

You're absolutely right about the commandment. Your error is that you lumped the idol worshippers in with true Christians. The good ones don't use the statues.

certain, you submit seems very indignant, as if on your view, all Christian could flow to hell. even with the undeniable fact that, Jesus stated, 'enable every person of you who's with out sin be the first to throw a stone at her.' (Matt 8:7). So, i ought to carry mutually that you've saved ALL 10 Commandments primary! We keep Sabbath holy, this is why we've service on Sunday, because service is likewise a 'chores' in accordance to an excellent type of persons. in case you examine the recent testomony, you'll see early Christian saved the Sabbath as well as Sundays. not all Christian believe what the Catholic or the Greek orthodox concerning conserving an image of Jesus. It became Christ, who's the Son of God, stated 'no you may serve 2 masters. both you'll hate the single and love the different, or you'd be committed to the single and despise the different. you could not serve (can be a type of worship) both God and money' (Matt 6:24) The very last one, are you able to teach me the reference in which God stated, 'i'm ONE'? yet i am going to teach you that Jesus stated, 'I and the daddy are one.' (John 10:30) Beside, in Genesis, it obviously stated, '2 grew to develop into ONE flesh' concerning Adam and Eve, have not you examine that? So, 2 can one and also you'd be 3. it really is God's good judgment, not your. So, in case you do not position self belief in Jesus Christ, then you truthfully would have situation with this understanding.

Very nicely done, my Son. I did like the theatrical voice. Well done. Personally, being a Pagan Person (and a Happy One) I have no problem with statues. I have a few myself (several Holy Mothers in the living room and St. Francis in the garden to name a few) but I think that along with the Ten Commandments (which are good in their own rights) I like the Beatitudes. Blessed are those and such. They're gentler on the spirit (I know Man needs a kickass somedays) and they tend not to have quite as many variations unless uyou're watching the Life of Brian and then you can say "Blessed are the Cheesemakers". Have a good one, and Blessings on you too.

Oh, sillies. Catholics don't worship the Virgin Mary. Get it through your thick skulls. RIGHT NOW.

And you are taking the passage out of context. I'm not even a Christian and I have to say, this is one of the worst examples of taking a Bible passage out of context for your own agenda. There are so many other passages I'm sure you could have used as your example and you vehemently pursued this one.

[shakes head]

The "commandment" is not to WORSHIP any such graven images.

(4)You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. (5) You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, (6) but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.

I am a Christian and I don't worship the Virgin Mary ( I believe that is only Catholics).

I *idol* (for lack of a better word) the trinity. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They are all 3 in one, just broken up.

Jesus Christ is GOD. That is not breaking a commandment. Jesus and God are one in the same, as the Holy Spirit is part of God.

I don't understand why you care? You can believe what you want and so can I. I don't question you and "coughs and clear throat sarcastically "

I just would not do that to someone.

I think u mean catholics, we pray to the virgin mary, and many other saints. I personally was baptisted a catholic but have become more of a christian as i got older.
Your question interest me cos my muslims friends have asked me the same question and I cant answer
the catholic church has over the years made certain people saints and allowed their follower's to pray to them.
i honestly dont know the reasoning behind it, but its a very valid question,
However, I dont think it makes the sincerity of the people praying any less real, they are brought up to believe that if they pray to a certain saint their prayers will be answered cos the saint has the ear of god
Its an administrative problem, nothing to do with how genuine the prayers are or believe are.

christian can be contradicting, we are no different from you. why do you & i stop at the stop sign sometime & sometime not. why some says white lie is ok & others say no. we christian want to be like Jesus & trying hard with mental limitations to interpret God's word. we can get it wrong & right. hopeful more right than wrong & God is always there to guide if we call Him. an object become an idol when you believe it has power within, like a lucky charm, which than negate God the real power.

I think there are several aspects to this issue
but as mentioned you are talking about a uniquely Catholic practice and problem and I personally think its one of the weaker parts of the Catholic practice although I agree with many stunning truths held by both protestants and Catholics

1) we should avoid God substitutes, Jesus Substitutes and Gospel substitutes

2) images of worship coming from the imagination of man rather than from what God revealed are wrong

3) some images revealed by God would be in another category, there were images in the temple of soloman for example and the scriptures themselves paint mental images of many things

4) Jesus said many would come to Him saying Lord Lord and he would say depart from Me and I never knew you.. many things go on in the name of cultural Christianity not necessarily Biblical.

5) The Bible leaves Mary praying to God on her knees in Acts in the upper room and we should probbaly leave her there as well as the great example of a woman of faith she was rather than evelating her innapproporiately making her a Jesus substitute

Based on that Commandment, I thought the statues and paintings of people were fine, it was models and images of planets and stars (maybe clouds and birds) that were forbidden? After all, there is obviously nothing "above" us accept sky and outer space. Of couse, a Judeo-Christian might claim that it means "above" in the sense of higher than us spiritually. But a spiritual entity has no material image to make a likeness of, and that would make the Commandment would be meaningless. Hmm; could the language simply point to outdated concepts and poor understanding of the universe?
