Is there anybody here who would even remotely consider changing their faith/religion/or beliefs because of what someone says in this forum? I'm speaking to everyone...Christians, Jews, Muslims, Atheist, Agnostics, Buddists, Mormons, etc.

I would like to learn about other faiths/religions/ beliefs that's what I originally thought this catagory was about. I hope this question makes sense.

If everybody likes where they stand then why do we get on here every day and call each other names and ridicule each other. Debate is good and interesting...but what goes on here is way past debating. Not a lecture just wondering.

I am pretty happy following Islam. So far I haven't found anything that convinced me to change religions. I dont know if anybody on this site was inspired to learn more.
Yes, religion and spirituality is a section to learn more about your religion as well as any other religion but it has become more of a section about why other religions or religion as a whole is bad. It's sad that people are bad mouthing each other's faith.

It is always possible I guess, but not likely I think,... not until this forum becomes a lot more serious and becomes something other than the mainly etertainment medium that it is now. Perhaps there are those folks who would actually consider other viewpoints on religion, but I find that most everybody is too closed-minded to even entertain the possibility that they could be wrong. I think people are generally afraid of the unknown, and religions/beliefs that are not already native in a person are unknowns. Plus too many people are afraid of being wrong and thus tend to reject other belief systems out of hand.

I think your best bet for learning about other religions would be google them or research them from books in a library that give unbiased summaries or explanations of religions. I like "The Dummies Guide to Religions" - easy to read and seems to fairly present the facts about the major religions. "The Religions of Man" by Huston Smith is another good book, but it is Very detailed and thorough - good stuff though since there is no judgement of the material he presents.

Oh, and another Great book to use in deciphering your whole perspective of the matter is "Doubt, a History" by Jennifer Michael Hecht - serious questions and doubting scenarios that are a must in any considerations. Last, but not least, try out "A History of God" by Karen Armstrong, a former Num - absolutely fascinating exploration of man's changing/evolving concepts/understanding/views of the higher power throughout history.

If anybody can convince me that:
1. my beliefs are wrong, and
2. their beliefs are right
then I would change in a heartbeat. I want to be right with God; doesn't everybody?

My beliefs aren't based on "how I was raised," like a lot of people on this forum accuse: I was raised quite differently. I believe as I do because:
1. It is only logical that God exists. This world is here, and even atheistic scientists agree that it wasn't always here. It didn't create itself; therefore, it was created.
2. It is only logical that the Bible is God's Word. The Book of Mormon, the Koran, the Bhagivad Ghita - they are all full of logical, historical, and internal contradictions. While the Bible has been attacked more than the rest put together, nobody has ever been able to find a single mistake in the text.
3. Only the religion I follow goes by the Bible alone. Every denomination adds something to the Bible: their traditions, a creedbook, discipline, catechism or manual. I go by the Bible and the Bible alone.

Of course not. But there are individuals who truly believe that if they quote (cut and paste) enough scripture to the non believers that they will actually be successful. What they fail to take into account is how many of the now atheists and pagans, used to be christians, It was the reading of the "holy scripture" that made them realize what a load of bunk it was.

If you want to learn about other faiths, I suggest you do it somewhere other than Y!A, because most of the people on here are the absolute extreme of whatever faith they follow.

And I would suggest that you ask a person of the particular faith(s) you are interested in learning about to tell you what they believe, rather than a person from another faith because that second person will lie to you about a faith that is not their own in order to make that faith appear evil.

Understanding other religions can be valuable, because it broadens one's mind and sensibility but it is equally important to deepen one's understanding of one's own. If after a long and patient process of consideration, you feel you ought to change your religion, that is okay. But a quick conversion may do more harm than good and not be lasting. If you look into it, you will find that every religion has hidden depths. If you are still dissatisfied with your religion, you and others like you can try to reform it from within. All religions are in need of reform a good deal of the time.

Hi, there. I'm a Christian and I won't change that based on anything anyone says or does. I made a choice to have a personal relationship with God by accepting Jesus as my savior. For me to change my stance on that...it would mean that whatever I decide to change to will have to give me fufillment in every area of my life. And I can tell you this....I have not seen or found anything as fufilling as living life driven by eternity. Beentheredonethat. Now that's me, I'm sure everyone has a reason for considering whatever beliefs they find themselves in. By the way...this was a great question. Made me think.

I will never deny Christ crucified and risen for the sins of the world because God loves us so much.

I respect others view points and religions, but, I don't like those with foul mouths and sacrileges comments about my Lord. And they that ask stupid questions to "entertain" the list. I am not amused.

I am truly interested in learning others beliefs, but I will not give up mine, which I know to be true in my heart & soul.

I'm an atheist and no, there is nothing anyone here could say to make me convert. The only way for me to convert would be if I got a proof that god exists.

I come to this section to:
1. learn more about religions so that I can understand their followers better
2. answer other people's questions about atheism so that they can understand me better
3. defend atheism when it's under attack and defend people's right to make their own choices in regards to religion.

NEVER>I love islam and I love Allah SWT. I wouldn't change who I am or what I believe in. I've never been more happy in my life. If you really look at all the religions they have the same foundation but I think when you find the COMPLETE religion that COMPLETES you as a person then you'll know which one to believe. you need to have all the answers to your questions before moving forward with a religion. I wouldn't change my religion just because someone says so that wouldn't make sense. it has to "click" and make sense to me in order for me to even have a tiny thought of embracing it.

Nope, I'm just here, because every now and then Christians with real problems need help. I like to do what I can.
