... lifestyle, theology, and ideas?

Point of fact: A person may be tolerant of others, yet still not totally accept the other's life style, theology, or ideas.

political correctness today is taken as 100% acceptance of another's ideals. It does not leave room for idividuality or respect.

People are so used to being told what is tolerant and what is not that they forget you shouldn't believe something just because you are told to believe it. People today are a mass brainwashing epidemic, and those who cling to their individuality are devalued and called intolerant by the politically correct police. A person can be tolerant and not accept someone else's lifestyle, beliefs, and ideas.

Is your question specifically, "why do people believe that you must totally accept their lifestyle, theology, and ideals, while they don't have to accept yours"? Because that is a very good question!

I will listen to and respect the lifestyle, theology and ideals of others and expect them to grant me the same respect and courtesy. I don't have to be accepting, but I can at least be respectful, and I fully expect to be treated the same way in return. It's called being an adult. The moment that I do not recieve that courtesy and respect, then I STOP LISTENING. Every person on this planet has a God-given right to at least be treated with some measure of courtesy and respect. People don't have to accept you, but you DO NOT have to put up with being disrespected, no matter who you are, what you think, how you feel, or what you believe in. Peace!

Noone says you have to agree with their lifestyle, theology and ideas. What you have to accept is their right to have a different life than you. It's called tolerance and I'm sure you want others to be tolerant of you too, even if they don't agree with everything you do.

Tolerance is dangerous because it is seen as acceptance. When you tolerate a certain type of behavior then the person praticing becomes much more comfortable around you and then you find other warped people trying to warp you.For instance after being freindly with some gay coworkers i was exsposed to a long rant about coming out gay pride and disney land.I wanted to say thats wrong and sick but instead I just listened and didnt want to rock the boat somehow i feel I actually did us both a disservice because now they think what they do is just fine and dandy.I wanted to say I accept you as a person but I dont want to hear about your warped way of life.I really dont.

You DON'T have to accept their lifestyle, theology, and ideas.

You only have to accept their right to have the lifestyle, theology, and ideas of their choosing.

To accept their lifestyle would mean changing yours and that is not what America's freedoms are about.

The proper would word might be to ALLOW their lifestyle, theology, and ideas.

Some people want us to switch to their way of thinking because they are insecure about whether they are correct. By us being different from them, they feel that we think they aren't CORRECT and that bothers them.

If someone is annoyed that you are different, they are the ones who don't understand what it is to be American.

We should make room for others different from ourselves but they should not expect us to change to their way of life.

Because some people don't think. They are so use to thinking that way that will won't ever change. Whereas everybody can make their own decisions and live, do etc. they want to do themselves and get out of life what they want. Meaning they are doers not followers. The followers won't get anywhere's and wonder why..... but the doers will achieve what they want and nothing will get in their way because if anything does they'll figure out a way anyways.

Some people just don't get that we have free will in this life, that is what God gave to us because he loves us. He didn't want to have to force himself on anyone, He wants us to freely choose to love and follow Him. Christians are suppose to witness, to tell people that Jesus died for them and rose from the dead so that we can live with God. Many Christians for some reason mistake witnessing for pushing their beleifs on others, but also take into account that if when a Christain talks about Jesus in any way whatsoever people get angry and say they don't want to hear it. There is a proper way to witness and that is through love. That is how Jesus thaught was through love.

It's called tolerance. You don't have to totally accept thier ideas, you just have to accept that they are entitled to those ideas.

Some people are intolerant and cannot tolerate people who don't conform.

Such people would have been happy living in Nazi Germany

Some people are insecure about their beliefs. When someone else finds fault it makes them question them self. Some folks need a lot of affirmation.
