It is caused by your digestive system - it's been put to work...Try not to eat too much and chew slowly. A cup of coffee or black tea afterward may help you prevent it. (It helps me, at least.)

It's most likely an insulin spike. Have you monitored your blood sugar during the times before and after meals? It might be helpful to know what's going on.

You may be diabetic, hypoglycemic, or have insulin resistance (very common nowadays).

Try eating smaller, more frequent meals, and make sure you have as much protein and fat as you do carbs. Too many carbs by themselves create a quick increase in blood sugar, which results in an insulin spike, leaving you feeling tired and drained. By eating protein and fat with the carbs, you slow down the insulin response.

You can also look into the Glycemic Index (just Google for it.) It will let you know which foods raise your blood sugar fast (bad) and which raise it slower (good).

I feel tired after eating lunch lately. I always drink a glass of water before eating, today I ate a veggie burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, swiss cheese and olive oil mayonnaise on a multi grain sandwich thin. I have been told that I have a higher level of cholesterol and need to improve on my intake of good cholesterol. I have always had low blood sugar and due to a recent automobile accident I have done little exercising.

Depends on what you are eating and how much you are exercising. Foods that are high in carbs, sugars, etc... can leave you feeling drained.

Meanwhile, fresh fruits, veggies, and foods high in protein can boost your energy for hours afterwards.

Also, are you working out? Jogging? Or walking? All these things can, and will, up your energy levels after eating. Remember, food is the fuel that makes your body run. If you fill the tank with junk, your body is sure to run like an old clunker.

Some foods will make you feel sleepy. I think pasta is one of them. I am sure you can google this and find out which foods do this. I would look up the info for you but frankly I am too tired and lazy to do this today. Besides my computer is so slow I don't feel like fighting with it.

First try typing in the effects of pasta in the body. Or effects of food. I am sure something will pop up.

Good luck

if you know your sugar status and that you do not have an underlying disease like diabetes or something, it is because:

when you eat, there is vasodilation to the stomach. more blood flows to the stomach because the gastic cells are stimulated to secrete the gastric juices for digestion. because of the increased bloodflow to the stomach and intestine, the other vital organs do not get as much O2 and the brain gets tired. you start yawning to increase the O2 to the brain as you are now full and your respiratory rate goes down and most of the blood is sidetracked to the stomach. but dont worry, the brain still gets enough nutrients and oxygen to maintain it.

try to eat smaller portions and then give yourself about 20 minutes for most of the digestion and then do a few light exercises.

The body adjusts itself after a person partakes of a meal. This makes one want to rest as opposed to being active. This is normal. If you are in the work place and feel that you are being inhibited by your eating habits, eat around 11:00 a.m as your lunch break. This way you will have time to rest and yet become more energetic. I personally eat my largest meal at breakfast time. I have tea and maybe a light salad at lunch. Sometimes, I have soup and garlic bread when dinner should normally be served. I feel so g-o-o-d just putting myself first and not eating excessively. At night, I get at least 8-1/2 to 9 hours of sleep. I walk vigorously every day and I have lost weight. This regimen I hope will help you. Quite naturally, before I start my day, I thank God for reviving me and giving me the opportunity to make my own choices. Remember this, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" - Romans 8:31. Peace and God Bless.

Try eating meals only when you feel sharp hunger pains and frequently eat healthy snacks. You may be able to get by with less meals and still get the proper nutrition. Also see a doctor so you can get some tests to make sure everything is running well.
