I realized that many years ago. That is why I too refer to the bible as a story book. Personally, I think it was invented by the powers that be many, many years ago in the effort to keep people in line and to explain things that were not explainable. Just another manifestation of a mythology.

Considering there are many versions of the Bible and that it's changed over time... even if it were all true in the beginning, it wouldn't be now.
The way the bible describes "God" is much like a spoiled 2 year old on a power trip having perpetual temper tantrums... I mean... turning people into salt because they looked back?!
I have no idea why people follow this... book. Even in the "beginning" their God was petulant and lied.
Yes, lied.
Adam and Eve are in the garden... Eve and the snake are talking. Eve says I can't eat the fruit - God said I'd die, the snake says... yes you can eat the fruit. Both Adam and Eve eat the fruit. They don't die that day... nor the next week... or the next year. Adam lived for an incredibly long time (300? 400? years? I've forgotten)
What a lovely leader... petulant, changes his mind, lies about stuff... Where do I join up?

So what you're saying is don't believe anything written in books? Where do you draw the line between what you decide is fantasy and what you decide is fact. Chances are most of what you believe in is written in a book - theorized by someone, seen with few people's eyes, but yet, you choose to believe it don't you?
The Bible doesn't even describe Heaven or Hell in all that much detail. There are very few scriptures about either. Most of what you seem to believe is hollywood packaged and stereotyped. Heaven and Hell aren't the point of the Bible or of faith. Are teh two concepts important? Sure. Should we fear Hell at some point? Sure. But, there's hope and Jesus takes any of that fear away. God is the point.
If you'd read the Bible, you'd see just how pre-planned it all has been.

If religionists can sell an after-life, I ought to be able to sell real estate there. Maybe something along this line, ...."Make the last step you take in this life be the first step you take into the luxury of "Heavenly Estates". Why spend eternity floating on a cloud when, for 10% of your income while here on Earth, you could reside in a Huge white marble, gold trimmed mansion with cherubim taking care of your every need? Act today, the end is near and a two year minimum payment is needed to guarantee your place in" Heavenly Estates".

as descriptive as they are why would you want to take the chance of going to the so called "story book hell" if there was in fact one. think about it. these stories have started since the time of Pr. Adam AS all the way to NOW. some stories change through people's interpretation but the scriptures haven't with the exception of the different versions of the bible. so you have the torah and the quran that still have the same story intact. I'd be afraid that the "hell" spoken about truly exists. wouldn't you? you don't want to say "OH ****!, story book hell really exists" when you're in it. Now do you?

Are you saying we should reject the Bible just because you say so? Isn't that the same kind of blind following you accuse us of?
"These are not the divine words of God or he wouldn't change his mind so often." Give one example. People have the idea that the Bible is full of contradictions, but despite hundreds of years of opportunity, nobody has ever found one real contradiction.

God has never changed his mind. the revelation of God comes from the holy spirit not simply words on a page. God reveals himself to those who have value in him and seek him with all there hearts. You have not found God and are speaking to those who know him.

For the guy that said it matches geographically, so did the Iliad. it's about people who did exist at that point in time, but you know the Iliad isn't entirely true.
