Pugs and Pug crosses are good. Pugs love people and want to be with you all the time. THey are the largest of the AKC Toy breeds and have no other purpose in life than to be a companion. Many small breeds started out as rodent catchers (most terrier type breeds) but the Pug from the beginning of its time was bred to be a companion to royalty in China. In general they get along great with other dogs, love children and are sturdy enough wrestle with. They enjoy being couch potatoes or chasing a ball in the yard or at the park. They do shed so you need to brush them but I dont think you can beat the personality of a Pug. They come in fawn (tan with black ears and face mask) and black, although there are other colors that are rare, such as brindle or silver.
But beware, Pugs are like potatoe chips...you ever have just one. I currently have 5.....

Until 3 years ago I always had large dogs. I have discovered a breed called Chinese Crested. The produce 2 different kinds of pups from the same litter. A hairless version and a fully coated version called a Powderpuff. NEVER would I have any other breed again. They are so lovable, playful and very entertaining. There hasn't been a day that my 3 didn't make me laugh out loud several times a day. They cost more than you are able to afford but there are opportunities out there in rescue shelters for each breed that need a good home. You might try www.hopeshaven.com or just look for Chinese Crested shelters, rescue or perhaps you might even cal a few breeders that are willing to work with you for free or a reduced fee, or a contract so that you keep the dog but they retain breeding and show rights. You won't be sorry with this little breed. Best of luck in your search.

I recommend a "mutt". Go to your local shelter. Lots of very cute, small pups, which will be small dogs, which need good homes and for a lot less than $325! I have found that "mutts" make the best pets! I have a pomeranian and fox terrier mix. She is beautiful, loyal, smart and very sweet and friendly. Pure bred dogs tend to have more health problems. Breed is no guarantee of the personality of a dog. Go to the shelter, interact with the available puppies, you'll find what you're looking for.

I have a Shih Tzu and love it to death. So sweet. Loves to be right beside me to rub on her. They don't shed. Have to be groomed (cut) about every 2-3 months if you want to keep them short. Costs 43$ at Petsmart for complete grooming. I brush her ears and tail every couple of days. Spend about 20 minutes before work walking her (good on leash). Pee pad trained. Loves to ride in car. You can get a Tzu up to appx 18 pounds. Mine is 9 pounds... 5 years old. I like the smaller ones. I've seen them for sale from 300-700$. A very easy going dog. I would not recommend if you have small children. The child could hurt the dog. I got my dog cause the toddlers kept sitting on the dog and almost smothered it. m

Go to a beagle rescue site and adopt. They are small, friendly and love to be lap dogs. The more attention they get the better.

if you can find a breeder in your area that has Yorkshire terrier mixed with a Lassa ahpso, they make wonderful pets. They can be very excitable as puppies, and easy to spoil. Don't give in to their big brown eyes when begging for food, they can get sick from human food. Good luck, and have fun! " I aspire to be the kind of person my dog thinks I am " Anon.

Go to your local animal shelter and get one for free. You'll get more love from him than you've ever know, thus automatically having a good lap dog.
