I'm a teenage guy with straight brown hair. I hate how it looks and was wondering what to do with it. It is 2" on top and a little shorter on the sides. Oh, and my hair is really thick so it doesn't look great longer than like 3 inches

Go to someone who knows how to style your hair. Short, with a little spiking and maybe lighter tips would be really nice. Give that a try!
I guess you should forget the tips!
