Christianity, Islam, Non-Religious, Hinduism, Primal Indiginous, Chinese Traditional, Buddhist and Judaism (in that order based on world population according to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_world_religions)

I was curious to note that Judaism was bottom of the list under Buddhist. I question the results of the tally. It is unclear what sources were used to collect this information. If church membership records were used, and/or census, then the information would not be complete. There are many that adhere to a given faith that do not attend an organized church.

There are many that believe if a person does not attend an organized church, then it really isn't a religion. Neopaganism and/or Wicca are both faiths that have not been addressed. These too have popular followings and given considerable weight by various organizations but still are not considered valid religions by a majority of people.

I also noted that in America the prevailing religion was marked as "Non-Religious", not Christianity. I presume Non-Religious would include clasifications like Atheist, Agnostic, and any following that does not fall into the category of an "organized religion" such as Neopaganism.

If you think about it there are actually 6 billion religions - each person sees, thinks, feels and is different.

We're social creatures, so we tend to group together and try to find things in common.

"There are many paths through the forest of life. All lead to the same place. Who is to say that their's is right and yours is wrong?"

But I'll play along.

Since most religions have offshoots and whatnot... the actual "top level religion" would be an umbrella term for those underneath it, right?

Islamism, Judiasm, Christianity, Aethieism and Paganism.

Paganism covering the rest of the beliefs that don't fall into the first 4 - Including Buddhism, most Native / Aboriginal / First Nations religions, spiritualists, newage, etc.

Although society today seems to have Commercialism, Science, Efficiency, Greed, Power, Vanity, Consumerism and Independance as religions.

What is religion?

If religion is a belief then there are other ways of dealing with it.

I do not like my religion of hinduism in the same context as islam so what is religion? Why should I identify my beliefs on the same terms as a terrorist religion?

Should we say something else instead of the lists given by all answerers?

I would request all of you who are sane and able to differentiate between good and evil to not take the religion of hinduism on the same value terms as Islam.

One of the questions on this site explains details that estimates one billion hindus killed by islam and their followers over their invasion period of 1000 or more years.

This is atrocious. I am not going to allow hinduism explained on the level as islam. It is better to stay out of your list then to be in it.

How degrading and insulting for hindus!!!!!

Well, I caught what you were trying to say (I think), so I'm going to think about this to see if I can get it.

Monotheism
Polytheism
Spiritualism
Atheism
and I can't think of the last....

Am I close?

Edit: I think these may be closer:
Humanism
Fundamentalism
Monotheism
Mysticism
Esotericism
