Hi guys...
Any aussie here can answer this question?
I've been driving for almost 2 years in Melbourne. I'd never had any insurance for my car.... Recently I heard from someone that driving without insurance is illegal... Is that true???
Some of my friends don't have any insurance as well....

Some said as a minimum, a third party's insurance must be obtained in order to drive legally... Is that true??

Thanks very much!!!

You are not required to insure your car by law so it is legal to drive a car without a car insurance.

I would suggest you should have at least a third party cover, ie if you are at fault, your insurance will pay for the cost of repair to the third party. however, you have to pay the cost of your own repairs.

Having comprehensive insurance will provide full cover for your car and the third party

It is crazy to drive without insurance.
It is your social duty to carry it if you drive on the public roads - no matter where you are in the world.
Grow up and get insurance - until then you are a public menace.

Can you afford (pay up when it goes wrong) not to have insurance?

You must have indeed that 3rd party insurance.
