yes, i think too much will make them feel that they can`t do anything right.it`s much better to ignore the unwanted &praise the wanted (good stuff they do).

Fussing is nothing. Its when a parent(s) start calling their children losers, stupid and worse that can ruin a child and set them up for failure.
Even so.., a parent should think before fussing over an accident. Is the (ahem) accident like spilled milk a consistent thing? Is the child repeatedly ignoring the requests to clean up his or her room? See what I mean? A child can not just assume he or she can just get by in life doing only what he or she wants to do and take on no responsibility.

I do not believe children should be punished for accidents but only for willful disobediance. When my sons make mistakes I expect them to own up to them and to clean them up or face whatever the consequesces are. For example: Child spills milk, Child wipes up spill. If child picks up glass looks straight at me and dumps glass and is old enough to know this is wrong child will be punished. But "fussing" doesn't work. Action and discussion do.

I'm not sure what the question is here, but after 4 kids, you learn to pick your battles. A teenager dying her hair blue is relatively small in the scheme of things =)

you should not fuss over a kid if it can't get it's way , but by the same token the kid shouldn't be chastised for every misdemeanour , tell ' grandma ' to butt out !

as long as its constructive criticism then its ok but just yellin to yellin as punishment then theres no good behind it and therefore renders the yellin useless and in vain
