Yes there is - It is sweeter than red merlot - read on:
There is a surplus of Merlot grapes in California this year, so white Merlot could be the perfect use of this very popular varietal. Look for substantial growth in this category, especially if they offer both sweet and dry choices. Many long time wine drinkers do not like overly sweet wines, but would like nothing more than a bottle of fresh blush wine, such as Fortant's White Merlot on a hot summer day, especially if it doesn't break the bank!

To put it simply, any red grape variety can make a white wine. The colour comes from the skin. If you press the grapes and remove the skin pretty much immediately you will get very little colour i.e. white wine.
Pinot Noir for example is typically seen as a red wine grape variety, but it also happens to make up one of the three grapes in champagne (and as a rule it's not red, and not that commonly a rose).
So yes technically you could have a white wine made from merlot, the question I suppose is would you want to drink it?!

Yep. Think White Zinfandel. Zinfandel is actually a red grape used to make a heavy duty red wine. But... younger folks are generally more familiar with white zinfandel, which is a bit blushy.
Merlot... white merlot... same process, different grape. I find it to be less sweet than white zin, but it was okay... although in many ways I find it distasteful that someone decided to do that to such an awesome grape that had so much to offer :)
