Actually the average lifespan of any dog whether purebred or of indetermine descent is between 10 to 12 years of age. However individual breeds may have shorter or longer average lifespans depending upon their breed. For example an Irish Wolfhound has a lifespan that is on average between 6 and 7 years of age whereas a toy poodle or Lhasa Apso is going to have an average lifespan of 12 to 15 years of age. A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has an average life expectancy of between 10 and 12 years. And then certain individual dogs may exceed their breed's average life expectancy and others will fall short. This will usually be determined by many factors such as how the dog is cared for and the genetic makeup of the dog, whether it develops any health problems along the way and so on. Just like in humans. But we all wish our pet dog lives forever like we wish same for our all loved ones..sigh.

Generally speaking, the larger the breed of dog, the shorter the lifespan. Of all the breeds of dogs, the chihuahua is the longest lived, with an average lifespan of over 15 years. Some have lived up to 25 years.

Yes. In general, bigger dogs live less long than smaller dogs, but that is not a hard & fast rule. Boxers are medium dogs but don't live long, and neither do Doberman Pinschers. Seven is geriatric for a Great Dane, but starting mid-life for a toy Poodle. The breeds known to live the longest are Schipperkes and Italian Greyhounds. Some live 18-23 years.

The Chihuahua is a very individualistic breed. They each have their own unique personality, so only a few generalizations can be made. Their life span is the longest of any size dog.

Chihuahuas and toy-poodles live really long lives. One of our neighbors had a poodle who lived to be like 20. She was around when I was in secondary school, then I went to college, she was still there, I graduated, got a job, moved to another country, returned and there she was. My brother went to our old town a couple of years ago and ran into the neighbor, yes, with the dog. Only thing was that she started up a black poodle and, with time, turned into a grey one.

Dogs are like people. The bigger you are the earlier you die. But you can never count on statistics. You make be a non-smoker and a non-drinker and veg and still die young. Dogs are same!! So any dog you chose good luck.
