I've heard that if you send a wedding invitation to the White House you'll get a congratulatory letter back. Has anyone done this? What is the letter like?

I don't actually want him to come!! I just want the letter saying "We can't make it, but congratulations."

Ok, the real reason I want the congratulatory letter is because I'm marrying another woman. Oooh, sneaky!

NEVER NEVER NEVER do this. George Bush showed up at one wedding thinking that the bride to be was a distant relation. When he saw that she was no one he knew, he had the secret service agents dump all the punch on her dress and left in disgust.

If you send an invitation, you'll get a note of congratulations signed by the President and Mrs. Bush. Send the invitation to:

The President & Mrs. Bush
The White House
Greetings Office, Room 39
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20502

You can also invite the Pope to your wedding, and you'll get his blessing for the marriage:

Pope John Paul the Second
Prefettura della Casa Pontifica
00120 Citta del Vaticano, Italia

My in-laws got a congratulatory letter from The white house signed by the president for their 50th wedding anniversary. This is the info my sister-in-law gave me.
You can write to the White House to request congratulations from the president for many happy events.

Steps:
1. Request congratulations from the president and the first lady for the birth of a baby, an important anniversary, a wedding or an adoption.

2. Write to White House Greetings Office, Room 39, Washington, DC 20500.

3. Include the name and address of the person you wish to receive the greeting. List the date of the event and the names of all parties.

4. Expect the person to receive an elegant embossed congratulations card from the White House.

Hope it helps! and good luck!

I'm sure he wouldn't come unless there was a photo op.... A letter with the invitation that tells the story of how both the husband and bride were planning to wed in New Orleans but KATRINA separated them for 10 months, neither knowing where the other one was. The Salvation Army and The Red Cross got together and arranged a reunion. Expect lots of press at this wedding. You bet THE PRESIDENT WOULD BE THERE...

My college roommate's fiance did that, and they got a card back saying sorry, we can't attend, congrats. Some kind of standard form. It was late, though, and didn't come until a few days after the wedding. She was really excited about it anyway. Depending on who is in the White House when I get married (I'm hoping for next fall, but we haven't committed to a date, yet), I will do this, too.

She was really freaked out for a bit, after she found out that he sent one to the President. She was terrified that, since it was only a month before his re-election, that he might actually come, you know, wanting to shake hands, and kiss babies, and all that junk that political candidates do, and that something would go terribly wrong.

Good luck!

*EDIT* I'm sure you'll get something back anyway, because I doubt anyone reads those carefully enough to notice that you're both girls.

Q. I've heard you can send your invitation to the President, and receive something back from him. Do you know how to do this?
Susan
A. Yes, you can send the President a wedding invitation and you will receive a pre-printed card with the signatures of the President and First Lady -- which makes a wonderful keepsake. Here's where to send your invitation:
The President & Mrs. Bush
The White House
Greetings Office, Room 39
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20502

Assuming I will get married in the next few months/years, I am not going to send an invitation to the White House.

You get a form letter congratulating you and telling you that the President's Schedule won't permit his attendance.

You do not have to send him an invitation,

http://www.whitehouse.gov/greeting/

Just fill out the form on this web site. You get this really cool card in the mail, we thought it was fun. After you fill all the info out you will get an email response. Make sure that you respond to what you get other wise you will never get it.
