I used to do that too. I can't believe I even made it through my teenage years because of the stupid things I used to do. And now that I am an adult, I have caught my teens doing the same stupid things! We live in a two story house and a few months ago I actually caught my very mature, responsible, NEVER gets into any trouble 14 and 15 year old girls actually tying sheets together and using them as a rope to climb out their window and scale the side of the house!! They said they saw it on a movie and wanted to see if they could really do it!!!! I couldn't believe they would even think to try such a thing. And after all the talking about how dangerous it was and how they could have been seriously injured do you know what taught them their lesson? Nope, not the danger in what they did, just the hassle of having to spend an hour and a half untying the knots from the sheets! I think in the end it just comes down to the invincible feeling we all have at that age. It makes us fear nothing. I just wake up everyday, pray for a hedge of protection around them and let God watch out for them. Otherwise I would drive myself crazy with worry. :)

FYI,it only takes about 30+volts and a current of I amp to be potentially fatal to a healthy person. The elements of a toaster are coated with a semi-conductor material so you weren't in any extreme danger unless you had broken the element or touched the connectors. You should never touch any internal electrical components with anything unless the power is disconnected.

I did that for years too until someone pointed out to me I could be electrocuted. Of course I've stopped doing it, but isn't it funny, I have never ever heard of anyone injuring themselves using a knife to take out the toast. Have you?

Stupid/lucky? Nah...just clueless (ignorant sounded harsh)
I used to do that on purpose. I'd grab my older bro, stick the knife in the toaster and zap him. It's not so bad. Kids...do NOT try this at home.
Btw, it takes a lot more juice than that to kill or do serious damage (unless you have a heart condition). You hang on for awhile then your body's reflexes kick in and you let go.

Yeah ... if the toaster is on and you're holding a metal knife as a conductor to the open electricity, you're probably going to get the life shocked out of you. I'm surprised you aren't dead.

If you just pull the electric plug off first, or if you use a bread knife with an isolated handle, then you will be okay...
but if you're not, then your so lucky to still have a chance to ask this here... God still have a plan in your live then...

If you unplugged the device first, then it is okay. If you didnt', then you were very lucky.
I did the same thing too, until my mom yelled at me back when I was 12 and told me to never do it again. To this day, I still don't put anything in the toaster except for plastic silverware. :P

A toaster would be more likely to burn you than electrocute you. With 120 volts, there is little chance of it killing you if you did get a shock.

You are very lucky and I would not consider you stupid. Maybe ignorant (def:unaware/uniformed) of the consequences. Everyone has done that at least once so don't feel bad.
