Whether you're aware of it or not, we respond to smells. Pubic hair and armpit hair help produce odors that attract mates.

Researchers tried this experiment. They swabbed a guy's pits (no deodorant) then smeared it on some chairs while leaving others unscented. Then they got women to come in and select a chair. Women tended to select the chair which had been smeared with the guy's scent.

When they tried it with girls pit scent, the numbers were a little lower suggesting men have a weaker sense of smell. Strangely enough when they tried the same experiment with gay guys, the number who responded to a female scent was even lower, suggesting a biological basis for homosexuality.

As far as I know, they only tried it with armpits...but it's likely the same will hold true for pubic smells.

Natural selection may also have sustained it because it can show a potential sexual partner that the other person is sexually mature and can reproduce. In this theory, the tufts of hair that grow around the genitals, as well as under the arms, capture these erotic scents. Pheromones get trapped in the pubic hair when apocrine glands release an odorless secretion on the surface of the skin that combines with bacteria decomposed by the secretions of the sebaceous glands. Humans have the same number of hair follicles as gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans, but body hair is generally very fine or barely visible in comparison. So, while pubic hair and underarm hair might be considered the primary scent traps, they are not the only ones. For some people, scents from these areas are noticeable and consciously increase sexual arousal. Pheromones might not be obvious but may be detected subconsciously.

Another theory is that the pubic hair keeps the genitals warm. The purpose of women's pubic hair could be similar to that of the cilia in the nose, in that it prevents small foreign particles from entering the vagina. However, this doesn't explain male pubic hair.

Throughout your body, generally at the points where there is extra hair, the blood vessals are closer to the surface and a lot more vital to the running of the body than others. These places would lose a tremendous amount of heat unless there was an extra layer of fur between them and the outside world. Thus hair grows there.

This dates back from animalistc humands that didn't have clothes and has not/ probably will not be eliminated from the gene pool
