"If we lose our nerve and leave the Middle East before the job
is finished, the world will be much worse off"

and I agree but why the violence increase?

from military channel in one of many documentary
I learn US soldiers they can't be involved during security
operations made by Iraq police force
and US Soldiers they can open fire only
if the enemy target them first... WTF???????
my opinion it will take forever or not?

what we should do in order to accelerate the peace
in Iraq?

What exactly will we be winning? Bush has his head in the sand. Iraq is in Civil War at this point. We need to leave.

We can accelerate the peace by leaving.

Why?

Answer with a question: Name one war in which the occupying invader has won? Vietnam -- nope. Heck, go back to 1776 -- we were the invaded and we won against what was then the greatest military power in the world.

Unless we are welling to revert to the brutallity used by the Romans 2000 years ago, we will be out sooner rather than later. Even the Romans lost eventually and we are not willing to use decimation and the like to remain in Iraq. (Suggest you check on line dictionary for definition of word decimate.)

I think that with that statement Bush was thinking something else. He didn't mean that it will be worse in Iraq if USA army leave Iraq. It will be worse in Arab world.
It is civil war in Iraq between Sunni and Shiite. Iran could take a part of territory in Iraq and support their Muslims who fight in Iraq. Some political and territory changes can happen and obviously this is not in Bush's interest. Bush and USA administration wanted to destroy Hussein and put in a leadership a Muslim who will support USA and their interests. They couldn't do that because of the civil war.

If the enemy target them first... Is actually pretty open to interpretation. One can be targeted by someone refusing to stop when you tell them to- they could be carrying a bomb, and want to blow you up. So, they have quite a bit of leeway, compared to only be able to respond to fire, or defend their lives.

Notice how he said "The middle east" instead of limiting it to Iraq. He is indeed keeping his options open. Maybe Iran is part of the problem? :|

The violence is increasing, because the instigators of that violence currently have still alot to win, honestly, it'll probably calm down after the politics calm down in the region.

This problem will be our doom; it's moral name is altruism (other-ness). The idea is that you put others' needs / lives... in front of your own -- you sacrifice. Notice how often the culture praises a soldier's ultimate sacrifice. Notice how we dropped bombs & food over Afghanistan... This is not how you win a war quickly, this is how you prolong it, leave the enemy in place to fight another day and kill your own men.

Let's fight hard & fast to win completely -- we need a new foreign policy (see below).

It's too late to win. We lost when the Iraqis ratified a Constitution based on Islamic law, instead of adôpting a Constitution that protected equal human rights and freedom of religion for all.

Separation of church and state is essential in any free society.

The war in Iraq can be truly won by helping genuinely to reconcile all the local tribes, not by taking sides.

What we should have done in the first place ! Take out the Mahdi army and it's lunatic leader, take off the kid gloves and take out the militias. If the Marines had been allowed to do their job back in 03, this mess wouldn't be happening now ! Thank you, whining
liberals !!
