Yes, I am sure these men where misunderstood in their days. They were progressive thinkers for their time and history shows how any forward thinking men were persecuted for their thoughts. Although I am not a religous person by nature, I do believe these were great men and great teachers.

I do not think all the information we have on Christ and Muhammad is accurate. Unfortunately, organized religion controled everything several centuries ago and with that control, they were able to write their own history. It is not far fetched to believe that they intentionally changed the teachings of Christ and other religious figures to fit their self-serving needs.

However, I think man knows right from wrong without being told what is right and wrong from some book. I think it is instinctually instilled in our hearts.

I am only going to answer on the part of Jesus as I do jnot have enough insight into the Muhammad following.

So what do I think about Jesus. Yes he was misunderstood, but not as one could say that a looney is misunderstood. Jesus represents the one true God in mortal form here on Earth. he lived in Roman occupied Israel which had formely been under the control of the Jewish people. The purpose for which Jesus came to Earth Was to provide the atoning sacrifice and overcome death for us so that we can be set free of our sins and came into the presence of our holy God when we leave life as we know it here on Earth. God is 100% holy so cannot have a sinful being in his presence.

The Jewish people for a long time had been waiting for the arrival of the prophesied saviour sent rom God. When Jesus started his work on Earth some Jews understood what he was here to do. The majority did not, they misunderstood him and expected him to be a more militant leader come to overthrow the Roman control in Israel. That is the way in which Jesus was misunderstood.

Yes. I believe they were all very intelligent and enlightened people who tried to show people the correct paths to follow (they all lead to one place ultimately), due to their enlightenment.

Then, their doctrines got popular and became "religions". The churches (congregations) of these religions were told lies by the priesthood in order to meet their own controlling and political agendas.

So yes, they are misunderstood. And our "present" (or at least POPULAR) knowledge of them is very inaccurate and misleading indeed. For instance, I do not believe that Jesus or Mohammad were homophobic, sexist, racist, terrorist, etc. Nor is what they were trying to tell the public while they were alive.

I tend to agree with Gurdjieff (whom I am fairly certain had some acquaintance with Sufic ways in his Armenian upbringing) .. and other Sufic theorism I have read .. That a "living way" cannot be embodied in a corpus of words .. That is that a "living way" inevitably dies with it's teacher .. as the context of the time is lost .. both misunderstandings and misapplications are inevitable , as lessers attempt committing it to a written corpus ..
An old dhervish saying for this (which also acknowledges a utility for these written husks) was , "There are many vessels that never taste the wine" ..

Yes. Jesus himself said "a prophet hath no honour in his own country. You only need to learn about his death to know how he was misunderstood.

I know very little about muhammad but i'm sure the same was true in his day.

Both men were exceptionally good men and we could all afford to learn more about them.

There should be no wars between us, only a growth of understanding.

There are people around today with exactly the same influence as Jesus or Mohammad.

These days, they tend to be ridiculed, as indeed Jesus and Mohammad were in their time.

The main difference is that these days there are far more people in the world, and most of them aren't as gullible as folks back then.

CHRIST IN ISLAM
He is spoken of as "the word of God", as "the spirit of God", as a "sign of God", ansd numerous other epithets of honour spread over fifteen different chapters in the Quran. The holy Quran honours this mighty messenger of God, and the muslims have not fallen short over the past fourteen hundred years in doing the same. There is no single disparaging remark in the entire Quran to which even the most jaundiced among christians can take exception. In the holy Quran Jesus(PBUH) is mentioned by name five times more than the number of times the prophet of islam is mentioned in the book of God.(to be exact 25 times against 5). The holy Quran has something definite to say about every abberation of christianity. The Quran absolves Jesus(PBUH) from all the false charges of his enemies as well as the misplaced infactuation of his followers. His enemies alleged that he blasphemed against God by claiming Divinity. His misguided followers claim he did avow Divinity, but that was not blasphemy because he was God. But what does the Quran say? Addressing both Jews and Christains God says:

O PEOPLE OF THE BOOK!

COMMIT NO EXCESSES IN YOUR RELIGION

NOR SAY OF GOD AUGHT BUT THE TRUTH

CHRIST JESUS THE SON OF MARY

WAS (NO MORE THAN) AN APOSTLE OF GOD

AND HIS WORD,

WHICH HE BESTOWED ON MARY

AND A SPIRIT PROCEEDING FROM HIM

SO BELIEVE IN GOD AND HIS MESSENGERS (Holy Quran 4:171)

His message:
The message of Jesus(PBUH) was as simple as straight forward as that as his predecessors as well as his successor Muhammad(PBUH) namely;"BELIEVE IN GOD AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS" for the God who inspired His messengers, is an unvaring God and he is consistent: He is not the "AUTHOR OF CONFUSION" (1 Corinthian 14:33).

MUHAMMAD (PBUH)

But where did muhammad(pbuh) get this knowledge from? He was an "UMMI" (unlettered). He did not know how to read or write. He is made by God Almighty to answer this very question, by saying it was "by divine inspiration" No! say the controversialist " this is Muhammad's own concoction. He copied his revealations from the Jews and the Christians, He plagiarised it . He forged it"

Have you any qualms in agreeing that Muhammad(pbuh) was an Arab? only an opinionated fool will hesitate to agree. This Arab in the first instance was addressing other Arabs. He was addressing his own people(the arabs) whether they agreed with him or not, he told them in the most sublime form- the words that were seared into the hearts and minds of his listeners that Mary the mother of Jesus -A JEWESS- was chosen above the women of all nations. Not his own mother, nor his wife nor his daughter nor any other Arab woman, but a jewess, can one explain this? because to everyone his own mother or wife or daughter will come before other women. Why would the prophet
of islam honour a woman from his opposition belonging to the race that had been looking down upon his people for thousand years? just as they still look down upon their Arab brethren today.
Will anyone explain this anomaly as to why muhammad(pbuh) (if he is the author) chose jewess for such high honour? the answer is simple- HE HAD NO CHOICE- he had no right to speak of his own desire. " IT IS NO LESS THAN AN INSPIRATION SENT DOWN TO HIM" (QURAN 53:4).There is a chapter in the holy Quran named surah Maryam(Mary's Chapter XIX) in honour of Mary mother of christ and again such honour is not to be found in christian bible. I f muhammad is the author of the Holy Quran he would not have failed to include in it with MARYAM, the mother of Jesus, his own mother AMINA, his dear wife KHADIJAH or his beloved daughter FATIMA. But no! no!this can never be. the Quran is not his handiwork.

His Message: BELIEVE IN THE ONENESS OF GOD AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS" same message as that of his predecessors from Adam (pbuh) to his Brethren Jesus(pbuh).

Our present knowledge of these great men of God is limited (our faults though) to break the shackles of our limitations we should read the Quran the final revealation from God to mankind because it is not according to anybody's narration but God's own words through angel Gabriel inspired to the last messenger of God Muhammad (pbuh). If anyone wants to find out about muhammad's sayings, deeds, action, works then he should read the Hadith which is separated entirely (though inspired) from God's own book. I call on other religions to read this with free mind, if there's they find anything insultive or derogatory i apologised because it was not intentional. Peace be to you all
