Do you think it's true about panic attacks? Do you think its true that if you stop fearing them and even forget that those things are real they will be much more rare and less powerful. Because I think I was feeling anxious even before but I didnt even know such things existed as panic attacks I always though I was getting just little tense and nervous and I never had any full blown panic attacks. But since I learned of them and when ever I get nervous and tense I say to my self here it comes,my face will turn red now, I won't be able to talk, everybody is gonna be looking at me and than BAM yo have a very strong panic attack. But if you think about it as just getting a little nervous like I did before and they might stop.Do you think this might work?

Yes your fear and dread of the panic attack makes it worse. I have had panic attacks and I would get so upset when I started to tense up that before I knew it I'd be lying on the floor with people all around me. That would spur it on even more. I haven't had one in years now and the main thing that helped was I decided that I just wasn't going to have one anymore and didn't panic if I felt really nervous.

I used to have migraines and this same attitude has helped me stop having them. Now when I have the visual aura I just say, I'm not having a migraine, I don't have them anymore and it goes away.

The mind is POWERFUL.

I am so happy, it was only a 35 minute drive ( 70 minutes total) but absolutely no sign of anxiety or panic i shopped till I dropped - brilliant! I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

basically, panic attacks are a fear that we are in a situation that we cannot control what will happen to us. it is a fear that we will not be able to handle what is happening and then it snowballs into....."i can't handle this and i think something is horrible is going to happen" (ie. heart attack). you get "tunnel" vision and cannot see things, you cannot think clearly and it becomes hard to breathe. the first thing that helps most times is to know that you are not going to have a heart attack and that at worse your body will atomatically kick in and you you pass out (but never a heart attack), second believe in yourself and your ability to know that you can handle any situation and that if something seems out of control that it is only temporary and will pass. i am a panic attacker and was at one time so bad that i could not leave my house. i am happy to say that with the right help you don't have to live your life in fear. eventually even i got to live my dreams and went to university and got my degree in education. it wasn't easy and every step is painstackingly hard at times but thinking of things in terms of "baby steps" (as Bob would say from the movie "what about Bob"!) is what got me through many moments. i wish i could say that i never have panic attacks anymore but that would not be true. i still have them especially when i am feeling trapped like in an elevator or in traffic, but knowing what i have learned i know i can "handle" it and that it ALWAYS passes! the other great thing is that every time you do "conquer" a situation the next one just gets easier and easier. there are some wonderful groups out there that can help you. i don't know what area you live in but i am sure if you ask your doctor he can help to point in a good direction. one self-help group that was in my area was called S.A.F.E......which stood for stopping anxiety and fears effectally. look for books in your library or local bookstore as there are many that are amazing, infact too many to begin to list. and above all if you find that one thing doesn't work never ever give up.....keep trying to find help because i guarnatee you that you do not have to live this way and that if you keep looking you will find good advice and wonderful people who can help you through this. i know how you feel and so do so many others and i wish you all the best, remember you deserve to have all the world has to offer. good luck and i know that all your dreams can come true.

I suffered with panic attacks and didn't understand what was going on. My usual out going friendly self seemed to have disappeared. I couldn't even walk into a shop didn't want to socialise (very unlike me) I booked in to see a doctor who prescribed " LEXAPRO" a mild antidepressant for anxiety attacks. It works really quickly with few side effects. I feel fantastic now. I would recommend you to speak with your doctor. they really do understand!

You can do some deep breathing excrises that will help. Also, there's nothing to be shameful about them millions of people suffer from these. Talk to a doctor and they can also, give you something to reduce them.

My doctor told me that the only way to truly get rid of them is to work with a therapist.
