A number of warnings have been made public, but have been barely noticed. For example, Young Families, the Minnesota Extension Service of the University of Minnesota, published the following in 1989:

"Although microwaves heat food quickly, they are not recommended for heating a baby's bottle. The bottle may seem cool to the touch, but the liquid inside may become extremely hot and could burn the baby's mouth and throat. Also, the buildup of steam in a closed container, such as a baby bottle, could cause it to explode. Heating the bottle in a microwave can cause slight changes in the milk. In infant formulas, there may be a loss of some vitamins. In expressed breast milk, some protective properties may be destroyed. Warming a bottle by holding it under tap water, or by setting it in a bowl of warm water, then testing it on your wrist before feeding may take a few minutes longer, but it is much safer."

Dr. Lita Lee of Hawaii reported in the December 9, 1989 Lancet:

"Microwaving baby formulas converted certain trans-amino acids into their synthetic cis-isomers. Synthetic isomers, whether cis-amino acids or trans-fatty acids, are not biologically active. Further, one of the amino acids, L-proline, was converted to its d-isomer, which is known to be neurotoxic (poisonous to the nervous system) and nephrotoxic (poisonous to the kidneys). It's bad enough that many babies are not nursed, but now they are given fake milk (baby formula) made even more toxic via microwaving."

If we panicked about everything we were told was bad etc we'd be suicidal hermits! I have 3 children all of which were bottle fed all the bottles i warmed in the microwave and we're all here without burns or other ill affects to tell the tale!!! The problem with microwaves only occurs if u think heating a bottle takes longer than just a few seconds and put it on for say a minute which would be asking for big trouble, 20 seconds used to be plenty for us and the only trouble i had once was sterilising the stupid things in a steamer for the microwave, i miss read the instructions and melted them all...an expensive mistake indeed!

when the molecules "vibrate" they are actually reversing polarity up to 100 billion times per second. This causes isomerism which turns nutrients into carcinogens and creates a foreign biproduct that your body can t break down. You people all need to research what a "microwave" is and stop spouting nonsense. Microwaves are just radiation machines. They use alternating current on a dc system (everything organic based is essentially a dc circuit). If you want to see the effects of what AC does to a DC circuit, just splice an AC plug (house plug) on something made for a car plug. Guranteed that **** will fry. Your body is no different

Once little Miss Eck was one year old and drinking cows' milk, we started microwaving to warm it up. Just 30 seconds on full power, a really good shake to remove any potential hot spots and then open and close the bottle to release any build up of pressure and one shouldn't have any problems at all.

If you do microwave baby milk, always shake the bottle well before serving.
The warnings and problems 1st came about because people were just giving the babies milk without shaking the bottle causing burning because of high temp of milk.

For Christ's sake, if you're that worried, heat the milk up first in something else and THEN transfer it to the baby's bottle. Rocket science? Yes, American c r a p this time......

It only vibrates the molecules, it has no bad effects on any food whatsoever. It only causes friction on molecules causing heat. If you know the time to heat food in microwaves you won't overheat it.

The biggest problem with microwaves is that the heat is uneven and the temperature control is hard to achieve.

I use it to heat my baby's milk. I just shake it real well and test it on my wrist befre giving it to him.

i would disagree, the main reason they warn against it is because the milk gets warmer than expected and it is easy to burn the baby's mouth.
