Is it betrayal to date someone behind my parents' back I mean without telling but am I being deceitful or is it just that I should leave it because what would they do if I tell them at this late stage will they trust me again ever or is this the way I think it is?

You dont need your parents approval do you? Well, may be their support or tolerance? I have had such problems for quite along time... never dicuss my datings with my parents, and they are used to it! be yourself, not your parents' idea of it! And think about more independent life!

It is always betrayal to lie to your parents but that aside ..

If it is because you are under age/they dont like the guy/religious objections then you need to think hard. Is the reason that they object to you seeing him valid? If it is then you need to think whether you should be doing it in the first place.

if not then it is still an issue ... you MUST tell them because it doesnt matter WHY you are lying . it is still wrong and it will still cause huge bad feeling.

I would suggest that your best way out of this is to announce that you 'intend' to start going out with him and ignore what has happened so far .. from their reaction you will be able to decide your next step.

Sounds tough though so good luck!

This must be your first relationship or you have very unapproachable parents. Either way my heart goes out to you. Your parents should trust you more if you told them, but I would understand your hesitance if you thought they would stop you from seeing your guy. It would be totally normal for a parent to freak out and also difficult to have a decent chat with them when emotions are flying all over the place. Tell them you want them to meet this someone, seeking out their approval will let them see you are mature and have put a lot of thought into the situation. You never know, they might like him and parents always chill out over time. Best of luck to you.

It depends why you didnt tell them in the first place. Is it a cultural difference or is he a bad boy?
Why do you think they wouldnt approve?

I've kept relationships secret in the past and its always been for a darn good reason. I know my parents would want whats best for me, and if they knew who I'd been with they'd be worried and with good reason!

At the end of the day though its your life and you gotta live it how you feel fit and do what makes you happy and hope that they'll support you when it goes t*ts up!

It depends on how old you are. If you are still under legal age, you really should tell them. They have your best interest at heart no matter how old you are. How are they to help you if you were to get into a predicament with someone they know nothing about? If you are an older person, you don't have to tell them about everyone you are dating. I know when I was dating I found it easier to be quiet and not have to deal with all the questions.

Ok take a deep breath, i take it your parents do not approve of the person you are dating? How old are you? It will probably be hard for them to trust you again if they really do not approve of you dating this person, but of you are an adult then you have to decide what you want to do with your life, and then accept the consequences of your actions.

Excuse me, but how old are you? If you're over 18, they have no say in anything you do - as long as it's not in their house - and even if you're only 12-16, I still don't see what it has to do with them unless you're going to do anything which might be illegal (such as have sex)

Why bother asking us? Just do it, get on with your life - although it doesn't seem to be much of one if you have to ask parental permission to do something - and take a risk once in a while!

Like some of the posters said, it depends on how old are you or even where you live. Calm down, honey, there's nothing to worry about. Talk to them calmly and they will understand.

Do it now. It is never too late to tell the truth. They mean well for you. They will certainly understand.
