Please, please, please...do NOT do this yourself! I beg of you to take those puppies to a vet to have this procedure done properly. I have a boxer, and I hate to think that some backyard breeder is attempting this SURGICAL PROCEDURE at home.
Each boxer I have owned has had its tail docked, but I've chosen to leave the ears natural. After being in Austria a few weeks ago, I am considering leaving their tails alone in the future. Austria has banned all docking...tails and ears. The tails look cute as they all have white tips on the end.
Of course, it's personal choice...do what you like...BUT leave it to a vet to do the procedure.

Your vet would know which joint to cut a boxers tail and nobody else except of course a reputable breeder who knows what they are doing. There is nothing wrong with docking tails if done humanly as I have seen poor boxers and rotties with the end of their tail broken off as they wag it so hard and hit things and that is very painful. When we buy a puppy we should have the choice of tail on or off. I live in stupid Aust. and it is banned here so we have to import dogs now.

If you cut off your puppy's tail and he gets an infection in the stub that's left, it can travel up into the puppy's spine and will end in the puppy's death. Your best bet would to leave well alone or take your boxer pup to a vet that would be willing to dock your puppy's tail in sterile conditions.

The one the professional veterinarian with proper anesthesia and sterile conditions decides. You should NOT, repeat NOT, try to dock your puppy's tail yourself. To do so is unspeakably cruel. The vet knows how to do it so it heals cleanly and quickly, and if you believe (as most do) that the docking will save the dog much discomfort later in life, and be easier on him generally, then you want it done with the minimum of fuss for the dog. You wouldn't try to extract your own kid's tonsils, would you? It's a serious surgical procedure, albeit a fairly simple one.

WHY on earth are you making junk-pups ???
You obviously don't know enough to be breeding ANYTHING ,let alone dogs!
TAILS are NOT "jointed"!!! Sheeeeeeeeeeesh
That's NOT how you decide what length to DOCK!!!
EACH pup is different & EACH tail needs to be adjusted for BODY-type,neck length,LEG length..
Have you even READ the BREED STANDARD??? SEEN any QUALITY dogs???
.
If you have NO GUIDE/MENTOR(WHY NOT???),ALWAYS go longer. A bad dock looks like CRAP, brands the breeder as FOOL & CAN'T be lenthened.

Personally, I think none. There is a growing movement to ban what many people consider to be a cruel, barbaric and outmoded practise. I do not know whether it will succeed, and I'm sure many breeders/owners would disagree, but that's my feeling. Great dogs, boxers.
