I cannot the comprehend how the gross marginalization gays have to suffer is in any cryptic sense in line with the spirit of religion.
Why is homosexuality so abhorred by Religion still?

Can you present a coherent argument proving the assumption that one's sexual preferences lessens one's faith in the Divine or aspirations to piety?
Myself am fully heterosexual, and a believer in God,muslim actually.

Thanks for your answers.

To Icarus;
Prophet Muhammad himself is explicitly against blind adherence to religion. I exercise my right to dissent as a thinking person and that isn't self contradictary bcoz all is open for debate and intrepretations,in fact it is encouraged by himself except for aqidah.

Yes, "we" are about as rabidly homophobic as Bush and comrades are you could say....

I'm just sick of reading verses on here that people pick out of the Bible. You have to read the whole chapter folks. You have to understand that the word of God, is not all the word of God. Paul wrote against it several times, yes - but the context,THE CONTEXT is just as important.

I am baffled at the stupidity of some of these so called "Christians." If you're going to preach, you need to get your ducks in a row. I will gladly discredit your rediculous statements based on my knowledge of Greek and Hebrew. It's like other things;

It's a sad fact that the truths of evolution are undeniable and oftentimes, Christians find it difficult to accept that it is possible that evolution is part of the creation process. World religions since the very first civilizations have created their own stories of how the world began, but it is our unfortunate disposiiton to be in such a new country founded on such secular beliefs. If you study world religions previous to Christ, you will be amazed at the stories found within their faith...they will look familiar. The Bible, being translated upon the request of King James brought about a new order of interpretation. As we do today, the laws, social expectations, were translated to fit the need of the time. In the same section that Paul speaks against homosexuality, he also mentions that women she not speak out in church, and many other abominations that nobody wants to discuss. A heterosexual minister with the Episcopal Church presented an awesome sermon breaking down the biblical passages that pertain to homosexuality, by this minister going over the chapter instead of reciting the verses, the bigger picture was seen by the congregation.
There are tribes in Africa where the male must have a wife and a male companion. Native Americans honored homosexuals and looked at them as special healers and/or allowed them to work beside the women in their daily duties. Ancient Rome, the nobles had young man servants who done a little more than served coffee.
Our ignorant culture hides many truths and understandings. You have to ask yourself, why do the most educated folks, especially those of the hard sciences, choose not to believe in God. Things to consider.
I will be glad to forward the sermon fore mentioned if anyone would like to read it.

In the same passages it speaks against homosexuality, it also mentions that men should not sleep with women so many days after her cycle and we should not eat red meat....it's gotta be well-done CHRISTIANS or you're act is an abomination to the Lord....read the whole damn chapter and quick picking verses to suit your agenda.

ANYONE who comes across this and wants to stand on the verses that they quote, contact me ASAP and i'll give you the whole story on every damn one you send. I will warn you, i've been to seminary, have attained my M.Div. so my ducks are in a row, are yours?

Lola, although, 'am not a Muslim, I don't believe there is any portion in Quran that will support homosexuality. The Bible outrightly forbids it. Infact it is a sin in the presence of God. In the Old Testament, Lev. 20:13, anybody caught in this immoral act would be stoned to death. Also, in the New Testament, 1 Cor. 6:9, "the effeminate", that is the homosexuals and the like cannot inherit the kingdom of God. As you may want to know that any religion is based on one'sown personal relationship with the God one is serving and there is no way one can actually have a relationship with somebody one is disobeying. There is no way one can has faith in a God he/she is disobeying.

God hates sin. Period. So, how can you say that you love God while you do the very thing that He doesn't want you to. In fact, you love it. You're supposed to hate sin like God does. It's called repentence. I'm not gonna pretend to fully understand homosexuality as a sin. No more than I fully understand alcoholism or drug addiction. People are made a certain way and are made to deal with certain sin to a certain degree. So, if you believe in God, what will you do? Will you truly repent and trust in the Lord or will you just shove the commandments you don't like aside. By doing this, you are creating God in your own image. Another thing he doesn't like. Scripture doesn't need to be changed to fit the human condition. We need to change.

I have come to the conclusion based upon the Bible's condemnation of homosexual BEHAVIOR that homosexuality could be God's way of telling a person that He wants them to be celibate. God loves homosexuals. But God doesn't give them or anyone else (heterosexuals, this includes you) free license to live any way they want without consequences for the very reason that God didn't make people to live for themselves, but to live for Him.

For that matter, Christians are never called to hate sinners, for none of us deserves God's grace in the first place, so none of us has any higher moral ground than anyone else. We can't point out our own "superiority" because there isn't any--Christians are called instead to proclaim the truth in love and to let Jesus take it from there.

Homosexuality is an abomination to God. Anyway you look at it it is wrong. The Bible clearing states that these individuals will not enter the Kingdom of God. God Made Adam and Eve, not Adam and John

The Bible was the foundation of most religions today, well, at least the Old Testament. It says very clearly in the Bible that a man that has sex with a man is sinning. In those times they were to be put to death. So why do they complain about people being angry about the whole gay thing. Tell them they are not being stoned or anything so chill out!

it does not. it's just another stupid thing in "society"...gays "go against the nature", therefore, against "god"...i think this would be a 'good' argument for someone that thinks that way. i am atheist and the more i see the more i realize that religion is an instrument people use to create differences in society ...like the marginalization of gay people

There's something in the Bible about it. I'm sure that you'll get the chapter-and-verse quote, but it seems to be one of the more popular selections. There are a lot of old "gays and religion" discussions here if you want to search. I don't.

I do not know about other religions, but in Christianity, homosexuality is an abomination to God.

Leviticus 20:13
If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.

Hey lola,

As clearly stated in the bible...

Do you not know that the unrighteous shall NOT inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators (having sex outside of marrage), nor idolaters (statue or false god worship), nor adulterers (Lusting after someone), nor effeminate (Homosexual and Bisexual), nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous (desiring someone or something, that belongs to another), nor drunkards (Achohol Drinkers), nor revilers (People who curse or use bad language), nor extortioners (intimidating someone to get something), shall inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10
