It makes you paranoid and can cause massive mood swings amongst other affects to your physcial well-being

It is a mood altering drug.
So is alcohol or cigarettes.
Of the 3 - I would say that weed is the least dangerous.
Alcohol has a calming effect on some people, the majority get violent and paranoid. With weed it is the opposite, but with less dramatic effects.
The nearest anyone has got to describing it for me, was when someone said it was like having 3 drinks in one roll-up without the bloating or headaches (he meant good weed though).
The dangerous thing about weed is because it's black-market, the quality is not controlled.
That's why I'll only have one 4/6 times a year now, when I know the quality. If you get addicted and smoke daily, chances are your smoking cr*p.
I had enough of that in my teenage years.
Taking the spliff right down to the roach (smoking it all) is worse than cigarettes (health-wise), otherwise cigarettes are worse for you.

Yes. It also makes you less motivated, so you have less desire to get out there and do things. Depending on the type of personality you have, this could make you slide down the slippery slope so that all you do is sit around smoking weed, and all you want to do is sit around smoking weed. My ex husband fell into this trap, and literally just sat about chain smoking spliffs all day, when he was not at work. He was hugely paranoid, irritable and depressed. He hated his job but had no motivation to try and find a better one. When he had no weed he was utterly unbearable to live with, and when he got himself more weed he just sat there smoking it.
After watching the stuff disintegrate him as a person, I really have to say don't even go there! Some people have the odd spliff from time to time and they're fine, but if you get into the habit of smoking weed every day, it won't be long before it has a negative effect on you.

This can be dependant on your personality and whether you have a tendency towards paranoia as part of your make up. From personal experience my own answer is an emphatic YES - it did make me paranoid. I smoked a lot of dope in my youth - I got more and more paranoid over time. I was smoking every day for about 10 years. I feel much less paranoid now I haven't smoked for a further ten years. It also messed up my personality in that i missed loads of life opportunities due to a "I'll sort it out tomorrow" attitude that evolved. The flip side of the coin is that i met some lovely people (some of whom have had the same experience and given up, and others who are still happily smoking today) and had some very interesting times in my youth.
It all depends on you as an individual I'm afraid - if you are prone to paranoia and dsyfunctional personality then dope is very likely to bring it out or make it worse. Good luck.

There have been psychological and medical studies done on the effect of smoking weed and the results seem to show it can effect a persons mental health in the future.

In the short term some people do become paranoid when they smoke weed

It has been clearly shown that smoking weed CAN cause paranoia and depression but it does affect different people differently. It's just like any other substance - not everyone who drinks alcohol gets into fights, or becomes an alcoholic, but it's very clear that those things do happen to some people as a result of the alcohol.

Weed affects everybody differently, I personally don't see ti has ahving much of an effect on me, although I'm quite a highly strung person and weed does calm me down and help me to wind down. In saying that I have a friend who smoked less then half a spliff when he was younger and has been suffering mental illness since including falshbacks to the night he smoked it.
The thing with weed is it makes you lazy so unless you are a highly driven person I woundn't advise it as it can bring people down and can make a depressed perosn moreso.

You are right, it has long term negative effects. It affects your brain - 'addles' (mixes up) your brain is a term often used. Look at older people (in their 70's maybe) who you know have been on weed - do you want to be like them?.

Even younger people are not totally 'aware' if they are frequent users. Because the drug affects your mind (makes you loose contact with reality for a bit) the more you use it the more your mind accepts the 'new normal' and yes, you can become paranoid if you are predisposed to that happening.

You may feel 'chilled out' at first- but if you continue (long term)you stay like that - unable to focus or use your mind properly, your eyes (connected directly to the brain) also stop functioning properly, which is noticeable to people who don't smoke weed -
In short, you stop living life to the full - you block it out, which is usually why people choose to smoke it at the time.

Think of the future - what do you want to be like?

If you need 'kicks' go study martial arts, if you need healing, study qigong or take up dancing - both get the endorphins in your body going and you increase your awareness, not decrease it!

weed is a lot healthier for u than the drugs doctors are passing out like candy for depression and anxiety. That is a FACT! But u can go to jail and prison if u are caught with it! If u smoke it on a daily bases it will lower your desire to fulfill the hopes and dreams u once had for your future, that IS if you abuse it! I have known people that smoked it just on the weekends and never allowed it to effect there daily life through the week and they never used other drugs because they did there research and saw ALL the other drugs where man made and very harmful to there bodies and future!!! IT IS BETTER FOR MOST PEOPLE NOT TO START SMOKING WEED AND IF THEY HAVE TO STOP! IT DOES LOWER YOUR ABILITY TO THINK CLEARLY AND SAY NO TO DRUGS THAT ARE VERY, VERY HARMFUL TO YOUR BODY!!! But once again if u need something for depression or anxiety weed is alot more healthier than PHARMACY DRUGS! Best of luck with your frifriend and stay clean, my friend!

Yes. I know a couple of people thias has happened to. They get very paranoid & heve extreme mood swinhs like one second they are devestated &crying over the death of their cat & the next second they are laughing about something else. It makes it very difficult for those close to them. Also they lose interest in things & can't concentrate so looking after the house & the kid had become v difficult. Someone i know has been diagnosed with some form of schizophrenia or something similar which was bought on by excessive weed smoking. I wouldn't do it again after seeing its effects on people i know.

not exactly paranoid but very anxious yes, and it's not me smoking but the smell of it in the air is quite enough. Which is one of the reasons why i don't smoke myself. Besides my body seems to be able to produce small amounts of some narcotic-like matter LOL as i sometimes have something like hallucinations when i'm weary and underfed
there are many more good things in life that are addictive but have no side-effects, eg sex
Why ruin your body, you'll go broke on spare parts LOL
