The other night and they turned up with blues&twos within 5mins.
As much trouble as I've had with the police they have always turned up when theyve been needed.

(Think they love driving round fast with the lights flashing though, pretending to be in The Bill!)

The last time was about 4 years ago. I called them after getting off a train. It was near to fireworks night and some kids were letting off big fireworks on the train! There were passengers still on it and the fireworks were bouncing round the train like missiles! The police said that there is no point in coming as the kids would be gone by the time they got there! I don't know if anyone got hurt, but the police did not seem to care at all! I am just lucky that I got off at that station when I did.

My Boss called the police when I found that someone had stolen my purse at work. A constable came within 20 mins & took a statement & chated with security. He was very nice. Next day I was advised that after trawling through CCTV they had identified the culprit & and arrested him, he was fined & also was sacked.
I once called the police when there was a fight outside my local pub, a riot van turned up 2 mins later surrounded the louts & said if they did not disperse they would use batons & shields, they violent idiots soon ran off.
My experince of Police in Britian is generally a good one

About 3 weeks ago a joyrider smashed into a car in my road and of course they didn't turn up half of the street was out at 10 pm and about 6 people called the police 2 hours later after all the neighbours finished gossipping we decided the police wouldn't show so we went back in doors.I'm lucky all my neighbours are friendly and we all know each others names unusual for Londoners.

Alot of time the police get called and take a long time to show. The reason usually. you want them right now for a burglary report, or because of a loud party keeping you awake. Understandable, but have you stopped to find out what they were doing when you called? I work for a small Sheriffs Dept in Missouri. At the time people call sometimes we are so overloaded with calls that we may have 4-5 calls pending at once for every deputy on duty. We have to Triage then. Start with what we believe to be the most serious first. The party thats keeping you awake, sucks but probably at that time there's a women at another house awake because her drunk boyfriend has beaten the hell out of her and now has a knife at her throat. And yes we've been there 5 times before, and yes, she always takes him back and drops the charges, but we still HAVE to go the next time. We might be pulling someone else's teenagers out of mangled car, or having to go to the parents house to tell them they died. Trying to get a drunk driver off the road before he kills someone. We might be at one of the other 15 parties that were called in before you did, we might be trying to clear a dark building that the alarms have gone off and we don't know if the burglar is still inside, we probably have one deputy trying to break up a bar fight, and The Commisioners say they don't have any money to pay for more Deputies. There are higher priorities in the county that come first! You may have some lazy officers where you live, but maybe your call is 10th on the list and not life and death

Three weeks ago. A neighbour caught a youth firing a BB gun at passers by and restrained him. A passer by called the police (the station is 1/4 of a mile away) This was about 3.00pm. 25 minutes later the police had still not arrived. I then called the station to ask how long they would be and got the reply, "Listen, we're busy, we'll be there when we get there". Another 20 minutes later a policeman arrived in his Panda car and put the youth in the car who then proceded to kick sh** out of it.

My husband phoned them when his van was broken into (not 999) about 5 weeks ago. They took all the details and told us not to touch anything in the van and put the window somewhere safe for fingerprints (they cut the window out) I waited in for 2 days, i then got a letter stating that they were not going to pursue due to lack of evidence, which I couldn't work out as they hadn't even looked for evidence!! I thought nothing more, then 3 weeks later there was a knock at the door and a police man was stood there, he had come about the break in, and had bought two colleagues with him!! They then did door to door enquiries and that was the last I heard of them!! I felt like asking them if they were the rapid response unit!!

I called them last night because I was behind a car on the highway that was swerving all over the road and driving really slowly. Obviously the dispatcher gave out the information quickly, because about three minutes later a patrol car spotted us and did a u-turn to pull the guy over.

our host's jewellery was stolen from her house when she threw a party
she called the police the next day, they came and she gave them the guest list and the police interviewed everyone of us
it was very insulting but we understood her reasons

a week later they sent her a fine for wasting police time because they suspected her of hiding her own jewellery for insurance claims.

they answer to your question is yes the police came all the time they were called even for false claims
