no they are fun firstly it isnt illegal but they are a pest so it is open season. The easiest way is you say just wait a second and put the phone down and every few minutes come back and say just a minute. they have a certain number of calls to get through and this causes huge problems for them.
If you want have fun ask illogical queries such as if they are selling telecommunication services ask what colours they come in, and can you get long distance calls in pink. If they are selling stationary ask if get a salad with each pencil when they say no , tell them that they are only saying that because your black ( if you are actually black say it is because your Chinese).
My favorite which you can only do if no one can hear you is to pretend you are orgasmic with their spiel. Or ask them to describe their underwear, if they are a guy ask them if they like gladiator movies, do they hand around steam baths , have the ever rubbed oil into another mans body and would they like too.

transfer them to someone you dont like with out saying anything

I find many hours of amusement off sales men and women you can too, remember the golden rule "have no mercy"

Inform them that you are at work and they are affecting your employment. Ask politely not to contact you at work and if they persist, where I'm at I'd get an injunction against harrasment and have it served to the company that's calling. You can't do that unless you've provided them with a valid message or callback number to reach you at.

You tell them not to call that number again and that it's a place of business. By law, they have to take the number off their call list.

SO LONG AS YOU USE YOUR CREDIT CARD , TELEMARKETERS CAN CALL YOU UP TO 90 DAYS FROM THE LAST TIME THAT YOU USED THE CC.
TELL THEM THAT YOU WANT TO SPK WITH A SUPERVISOR, AND THAT YOU WANT A LETTER SENT TO YOU THAT YOU TAKEN OFF THIER LIST. THIS SHOULD STOP IT FOR UP TO 5 YRS.
PUT YOU ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST .

They sell hard. I always tell them politely that I'm not interested and hang up (before they can even respond).
