take a look on ebay - there is a seller up in telford (i think) that is selling off all the last batch of rover cd players, they are specifically for rovers and there are several types available. most work with the clock and others have things like steering wheel controls and link to cd stacker and are all new.
i got one for my wife's rover 25 recently and it is a good buy as they are brand new and are proper rover spec made by blaupunkt with all the right connectors

usually the clock in rovers are not very good try taking
the wood strip off it and see if the earth strap is seated properly

id put aftermarket stereo in, you'll still have the clock working just the radio display will be on the new set.
