Most dentists are private or solo practitioners. The others are dental specialists who limit their practices to one of the nine dental specialities- conservative dentistry, endodontics , oral and maxillofacial pathology or oral and maxillofacial radiology or oral and maxillofacial surgery or orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics and dental public health.

Its true that in india you dont earn much but this proffession is in high demand in foreign because dental care is continuing to grow due to increased awarness of oral health care and many patients go for cosmetic dental procedures, teeth whitening procedures etc.
It also takes a lot of time to get established and earn decent amount of money.
So kapil,go abroad after your graduation and start a private practice.

Congrats !.I am also been selected this year in pre medical and predental entrance but got admission in dental. Like you I was also reluctant to join the field but then I met certain dental practitioner and saw them earning in lakhs.Recently my mother had undergone an operation and the dentist charged nearly twenty five thousand .He perform almost ten operation of this type in a month! Also a dentist's family life is quite normal unlike other MBBS doctors.
They begin to earn quite early and you can do away with MDS.Also there are only 1 dentist for 50000 indians
So the demand is quite high Its not a rat race like MBBS and ofcourse, at the end of the day you will be a DOCTOR serving others, bringing smile to others face.
