I don't have a Social Security number, but I do have a Tax Id Number, could I use that number to buy a house?

You don't need either to buy a house.

You will probably need the SSN to get a LOAN to buy one though.

You don't need any of that, no papers, no nothing to buy a house...

If you have the money, you can get anything. If you had the money and the government found out about your secret armory with massive amounts of weapons-- you could most likely negotiate an annual statement each year to give them in order to keep your arsonal.

Money is power--- supposedly. Tax ID's are worthless to the govt. unless its for their benefit, which it is in this case-- for paying tax...

A loan will need a SS#. So.. if you don't have the money, or a SS#, than you're screwed.

yes.... there are many people buying houses in the USA who don't even live here (i.e. have socials or even tax ids).... my mom helped me buy a house some years ago and she is not a US resident.... all they told her she needed was proof of her income and assets etc to substitue for the credit check..... the tax id they need for irs purposes so you can file your morgage interest when you file taxes each year.... you can get back money from the government based on how much you spend on interest/taxes each year for your home, so you should have a tx id, which you do have.....a social would be nice.... helps if you have good credit and a social would give them the ability to check it.... but otherwise.... it's not a big deal..... they sell home to foreigners everyday who have less than you.... they can sell one to you

If you need a loan to buy a house you need a ssn nr because they bank needs it then.
other wise if you pay cash i don`t think you need one because i know a German Dentist he has a house in the us but doesn`t have anything ssn nr or green card.
