Our cats are afraid of fish. They sit on the edge of the pond to drink and if they see a fish that's it - we don't see the cat for the rest of the day.
I suspect they don't like fish but have grown to eat it after being force fed by humans for 100s of years.
You're right though, i've never seen a cat with a fishing rod, however ours wouldn't have any room on thier bikes for a fishing rod

Turkish Van cats are the only cats that actually don't mind the water or getting wet. If you took a visit to Turkey near the sea, you might notice a few Van cats swimming in the sea. I think they found out that fish tasted nice (in their opinion) first, then the liking of fish must have been passed on to other types of cat some unknown way.

Not all cats have detestation of water and wild cats (Tigers for instance) like brown bears go fishing (guddling) in rivers and streams.
Thus the answer to your question could be evolution - in that at some point in the dim distant past a feline discovered and ate a fish and thereafter passed that heriditary trait down the the remainder of the feline population

Some cats are very fond of water.
Mine at least does not dislike getting wet, so much as getting showered. He fishes around in any open water container he can find (usually trying to catch his own reflection, but that's another matter). I think cats don't use fishing rods because their quick reactions and excellent clawed paws make great harpoons. And cats do tend to eventually try to paw at anything small that moves quickly.

Cats are curious in nature and they like to follow whatever moves in front of them
I guess when they first saw a fish they just tried to play with it .. and then when they tasted it and discovered it is eatable .. so there it is .. make sense?

I always thinking of this when feeding my cats. Maybe their mom teach them to eat only food with fish taste. I also always think, in stone age, how did the wild cat catch fish in sea.... I dont know. This also similar of thinking how did cow discover they must eat grass, not rice.

For that matter, how did dogs discover they like meat? I've never seen a dog cattle rancher! LOL
PS - For health reasons, domestic cats should not be fed lots of fish.

Hmm, a flaw in nature I'm thinking! they should at least have made cats that can swim or fish that like the occasional shopping trip around the local village!

there are fairly some commercially arranged catfish baits that artwork fairly nicely. in many situations, the stinkier the greater efficient, as catfish feed by scent. yet, I even have got here upon that the superb baits are those you're making your self. For a solid selfmade bait, try hen livers. I take a pair of pound of hen livers, place them in a plastic field with a hide, and set them exterior (no longer in direct solar) to "therapy" for an afternoon or 2. you have chose the beef to smash, yet no longer dry out. keep it moist. as quickly because it smells fairly "undesirable", chop up some garlic cloves, blend them in with the livers, and refrigerate them a minimum of two-3 days earlier utilising them as bait. All this odoriferous concoction could desire to be (in many situations) impossible to stand up to to catfish. once you're after rather vast fish, ensure that your rod, reel and fishing line are heavy adequate to handle the tension. 20# try could desire to be minimum if the fish are that substantial. For a catfish rig, tie a length a million/0 3-way swivel to the tip of your line. to between the swivel loops, tie a pair of 6" piece of chief (of lighter # try than your fishing line) and tie your sinker to the tip of this. utilising lighter line for this dropper chief will reason it to interrupt first in the experience that your sinker hangs up, thereby saving something of the rig and dropping purely the sinker. To the the rest swivel loop, tie a pair of 30" chief (use a chew of your fishing line). To the tip of this chief, tie a solid sized treble hook (try a length #2 or #a million). Bait your connect with as many hen livers as you may to make a ball someplace regarding the size of a golfing ball. it is likewise possible to tie some to the shank of the hook with easy monofilament line to make a chunkier ball of bait. forged this out from shore, right into a possibly finding pool of deeper water. you would be fishing on the backside, the place the catfish prowl for nutrition. once you're fishing a river, be sure your sinker is heavy adequate to hold your bait in one place. there are fairly some variations in this catfish rig, yet this basic setup gets you going. There are catchable catfish accessible!! solid success!!
