because i thought that is says something about jesus giving christians eternal life. Well, if that's true, then non christians do not have eternal life, right? Then what is hell, because i've heard that it's torment for all of eternity, but that would still be eternal life.

alrighty then... no, you're not bashing on anyone's head with your question... and you're correct to point it out. in fact, i find it an intelligent question indeed. and my response is:

all catholics (and christians, too) have believe hell is a place for non-believers or sinners cause that was what it was taught. however, the point is yet to be proven. is there a hell? or a heaven for that matter? i'm a Catholic... i believe in GOD but i don't go around in saying if you don't believe in god you'd go straight to hell... NO, i don't believe that. see, i respect it's essence, a place for sinners, but it doesn't mean that i actually believe it would really exist. my point is... it's existence will only be known once we are judged. in this manner, we would know if a heaven and hell do exist. but until then, i believe that it's more of an idea, that hell (or heaven, for that matter) stands as a symbol to us for good and evil, a utopia of a place where the righteous and the vile would reside when judgement day arrives...

Hell is indeed a place. It's in the center of the earth, where over billions of souls have all been packed neatly into the earth's core enjoying a roasty good time. Meanwhile, up in the clouds, you can see Heaven where God is currently watching an American Airlines plane go by. Wave hi to the passengers, God.

You are correct except for one point, hell is eternal death. In the Bible life is connection, death is separation. To be connected through a spiritual relationship to God is what the Bible calls life. When man is separated from God that is called death. That goes right back to the garden of Eden and Adam and Eve. God said to Adam, in the day you sin you will die. His death was not physical but a spiritual separation from God. People will exist in Hell, but that is not what the Bible calls life because they are separated from God - it is called death.

Oh no!
Here we go again with religion bashing and attacking.....
Ok! Hell is where satan and all his buddies will be after Christ's coming or the end times!
God can only judge those who are non-christians!
We can't and probally never have the knowledge to know so!
