People are far more receptive to controversial/offencive questions, or those having to do with dating/sex, than those about culture, history, or science. Why is this? Does everyone on this site have an IQ lower than 70? Is it a requirement or something?


I put this question under singles/dating because it's the only way I'm going to get some answers!!!

People are petty. They think with the primitive part of their brain. Plus most people are very uneducated when it comes to classical music and any cultural activity.

I saw this question while perusing "all questions" and not under a category.

I didn't answer your classical music question because I'm not a Rachmaninov fan. I would have more of an opinion if you had asked on some of the other classical composers including Paganini. (Rachmaninov or Rachmaninoff? - I've seen it spelled both ways)

In regards to the rest of your question, I think that you may have hit the nail on the head. Based on the poor grammar and atrocious spelling one would have to conclude that most people on this site are appallingly ignorant and undereducated. What amuses me the most is that there seems to be an indirect proportion between how much these people seem to know about a subject and how certain they are their answer is correct. Have you ever seen so many people who don't seem to understand the difference between their, there and they're? or how about to, two and too?

I keep swearing I'm giving up this place as it just makes my blood pressure rise.

I think that's it's not so much of a stupidity issue, but that people are on here to have fun. They don't want to answer a question that is not what they are interested in. All of the younger people posting here really just don't care about music other than what they listen to. Or maybe they are uncomfortable answering something that they don't know a lot about. While I've seen plenty of "I don't know"s posted as answers, it's usually for the young askers. A real, honest, serious issue wouldn't be the best place to show your ignorance.

I hang around the forums that I feel are my strong point. Places where I think I know what I'm talking about. I avoid questions that are beyond my scope of knowledge and experience. I also avoid anything that would make me do too much serious thinking, this is one of my relax times. If I wanted to be challenged, I think I would also look for a more intellectual place other then Yahoo which is a popular place for all ages and backgrounds.

I didn't answer the one about Rachmaninov because I can't remember the name of the one I like best. It's great stuff, though. Best heard on vinyl. I think it's the Concerto in E Minor that I like the most.
