Great question really.
I didn't thought that timetables will be such a big problem so as to utilise Yahoo services.
Go and read every reply till now and the answers r very much there. But the best place will be approach a railway reservation centre in ur area, locate the inquiry window and do the needful. now the railway people have become very co-operative and atleast tell u something instead of curt nonsense replies.

Get into any railway reservation counters in india, any book stall in a railway station, I have seen quite a lot of road side book vendors sell their own version includng pocket sized ones. Go southernrailway web page to get print outs of the timings, destination, etc...
