Have those who do have self assurance been brainwashed from a toddler into believing that god does exist? --- extremely, why ought to we ask such inane, insipid, and straightforward stupid questions? What do they benefit, even as they can so certainly be became lower back on themselves? For one difficulty, my mum is a Christian and that i do not take after my dad, for yet another, some each body is brainwashed into being an atheist, others are brainwashed into being a Christian. something else human beings develop into atheists or Christians of our own accord, not our moms and dads'.

I can't really answer your question but only give what I know. Let my story help if at all possible.

I am a 19 student in Canada. I live in a diverse county but in a very un-diverse area. The main demographic in my area is a rural farming type with approximately 50-65% christian belief. I am an atheist. That choice was made by me while I was around 15 years of age. Believe it or not, I went to a catholic high school and yes it is mandatory to complete at least 3 full credits in Religion. I only made the choice because I was educated to make my own choices on what I believed in. You can partly blame my parents if you will for that one. My father is English with a strong Anglican background while my mother is of VERY strong french Roman Catholic background. Both of my parents were pushed very heavily into religion and they in turn never forced it upon us. I only really came into contact with religion until I moved and had to be put into a catholic elementary school at the age of 12. Once there I did not enjoy the ridicule of being non-catholic, (can't remember the word), and that fact also led way to my decision.

So to go back to your first question, I do not see why it is the parents who are "brainwashing" because if a child were to be curious, there are many resources around for them to learn from. But this is only my opinion.

Hope that helps.

I am answering this on behalf of many athiests who have been browbeaten by some holier-than-all-others types for generations. The more you beat a man to convince him you are right, the more that same man will believe you could never be right. And who decides what is "brainwashing" and what is "educating"? If there is a loving God, and I know there is, I also know He weeps to see the things that are done in "His" Name. Don't insult people and expect them to thank you for setting them straight. Instead, get on your knees and ask God's forgiveness, and ask Him to give you a genuine love for those people who are not so blessed as to know Him.

The same reason people of religion brainwash their children into believing that god does exist, cause it's their belief

well, i'm not athiest...i'm not christian...well, religion isn't something i was raised with. but i do have great morals and know the difference between good and bad. i wasn't raised being told god does or doesn't exist. but i do respect the ones that do believe in god.

i respect that there are religion out there with a good concept...but please, don't force religion down other people's throat. respect that other people can think for their own and that they have their own opinion. i've noticed that i really don't see atheists don't go your house and lecture you about why do you believe in a thing like god? athiests only come out and actually say something when provoked.

i'm having a baby in a week, and my husband and i have decided that our kid can decided for himself if he believes in god. god isn't what tells our kids to do the right thing...it's the parent's job.

i have friends who are atheists and they are good people.

oh, and i use to live in a neighborhood that's predominatly catholic...and it's one of the most violent neighborhoods around. that's really saying something huh?

They probably do it for the same reason you brainwash your children into believing that god does exist.

Christians or any other religion, why do you put down others that believe in something other than you? I'm not saying all do, but some do. There is no proof that god exists and there is no proof that he doesn't. It's all in your personal beliefs, people should just lay off the judgement thing and let others have their own faith or lack there of.

We have right to tell them whatever we want. I was a Christian and my children will not be, because now I'm an atheist. I'm convinced that Christians has brainwashed my head. But as a child you believe child stories, but when you grow up you see it differently.

As a christian I have the right to bring up my children in knowing who God really is. That's my responsibility.

As for atheists, you can bring up your children in believing that there is no God but when God is ready to deliver you and your children He will.

All He has to do is just call you by your name.
