I like old fashioned food. Chicken and Dumplings. Ham hock and Beans with cornbread. Recipes that are passed from generation to generation. Maybe you and your Mom can cook together. You can learn on your own, but watching your Mom do it and learning that way is so much more rewarding. Once you have the basics down then you can try more complicated recipes. They always have tricks and know how that you can only get from them. Like what to do with a soupy or lumpy gravy.

Mom's Honey Hot Wings

12 chicken wings
2/3 c. flour
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 egg, well beaten
1/4 c. oil
1/2 c. hot sauce
1/2 c. honey

Cut each chicken wing in half. Place the chicken wings in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Cover and let simmer 15 minutes. Drain the chicken and set aside.

While chicken is cooking, whisk together the honey and the hot sauce to make a dipping sauce. Adjust the sauce to taste by adding more honey or hot sauce. Set aside.

Mix flour and garlic salt in a plastic bag. Dip the chicken into the beaten egg and then shake them, a few at a time in the bag to coat.

Heat the oil in a large skillet. Brown the coated chicken wings. Serve warm with dipping sauce.

Whenever my family is hungry and we need to eat quick:
Boil some water
Add 1 package of egg noodles to water
Drain the noodles
Add 2 large cans of Cream of Chicken Soup
Season with salt and pepper
then.......VOILA
you're full and the whole process only takes about 10 minutes!!
