It's the selfishness of it. St. Thomas even says that fornication is a less evil for it's more inaccord with human nature. Masturbation
makes you turned in on youself it's the antithesis of love that seeks the other.

Well, I am of the opinion that those who say that masturbation is per se wrong, is seriously misleaded. Too much or innapropriate masturbation is wrong. There is however NOTHING wrong with a nice session of self pleqasure, even if you lust after someone else.
(Lusting after yourself can lead to problematic narcissistic tendencies, and not lusting after ANYONE can lead to habitual compulsive masturbation).

I don't think masturbating is wrong at all, actually I find it healthy for the body and the mind. Just don't become obsessed with it.

masturbation is considered sinful, in judaism and christianity, because of the idea that you're, "spilling your seed" (the sin of onan - though he just pulled out, actually)... in other words, you're sort of killing potential babies - don't look at me! i didn't make it up! - because you're not using your semen to get a woman pregnant.
