I think with all the celebs decked out with the red strings on their wrists, it has become a fad. When you see Madonna wearing a shirt that says "Kabbalists Do It Better", it makes you wonder what direction she is taking her religion. I think it will be unfortunate for true followers of Kaballah if this celeb nonsense keeps up.

It is simply Jewish mysticism, like the Gematria and Zohar. They are ancient, prophetic and thought provoking, and that certain celebrities are choosing the read about it doesnt bother me. When a catholic billionaire decides to rename herself Esther, then it starts to bother me. If I asked Britney what the center circle in the Tree of Life stood for, and she didnt respond with the Hebrew word for beauty, I would be bothered. Hah, then again, only married men over the age of 40 are supposed to be allowed to study Kaballah....

the true qabala is based on a thorough understanding of hebrew and the torah that was written therewith - i'm gonna go out on a limb, here, and say that madonna ain't got that. so, in answer to your question, it's not only a fad, it's an horrific corruption of judaism, and, essentially, a cult (the two people behind the fad have become immensely rich, and have "members" as slaves, more or less).

It is a religious practice thousands of years old. It will continue to be a religious practice when it is not in the news frequently.
